Default 3D Creature Planets #7 : Dungeons and Dragons : Monster Manual

Challenge Starts March 5th, 12:00 am EST.

This month’s Challenge is FAN-ART based off of the Dungeons and Dragons - Monster Manual art.

Listed are some of the Monsters that I think are iconic to alot of Dungeons and Dragons campaigns. Especially the old-timers who have been playing since the 70's - 80's with the AD&D rules.

You don't have to adhere to these designs. Posted are some of the original Monster Manual drawings as well as some more recent interpretations of the same creatures.

(All images obtained from Google)

*** In no way does Wizards of the West Coast endorse or support this challenge. This challenge is to create FAN ART only. ***

~Challenge Guidelines~

- Keep the main design points of the monster
- Must be recognizable as original monster
- When starting post your monster name and image used as reference
- W.I.P.S. , post often to keep us updated and for feedback/ critiques.
- Use of any 3D program is fine, but Zbrush or Mudbox should be used for hi-res detail. Unlimited polycount.

Monster List:

1. Gelatinous Cube (fun to models the guy dissolving inside the cube)
2. Beholder
3. Rust Monster
4. Mind Flayer
5. Displacer Beast
6. Stirge
7. Mimics (treasure chests that grow arms or vicious teeth)
8. Hook Horror
9. Gnoll/ bugbear
10. Owlbear
11. Goblin/ hobgoblin
12. Umber Hulk
13. Ogre
14. Quasit
15. Lizardman

wizards.com link to a bunch of design sketches

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ag/20010316d

You don't have to stick to this list either it is just to give you inspiration and direction. But they do need to be Dungeons and Dragons monsters.

Good Luck!!

Challenge Ends April 1st 11:59 pm EST.

kryssmen - nice start man .

i think i'll try to finish this one this time . i found this character named "bug bear" interesting and i think i'll go with a stylised version of it . it somehow looks like a gremlin to me .

Bodak, very cool monster. I believe that was a main monster in the clasic module Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth. Great adventure.

Bugbears are cool too. they are kind of ogre like in size and look.

I completely forgot about Dominance 5.

We may have to revisit this challenge at a later date due to people being so focused on that one.

So wil this challenge be postponed then?

And if so when will it start and when will the due date be.

no, no. challenge will go on as usual.

if particitpation is low and too many people are busy with dominance, we could, a few months down the line re-visit this challenge if the interest is there.

no pressure on my end and good luck with the challenges.

I'm pretty new here and new to modeling, but I'm going to try my hand at this challenge with a Satyr. After all we've got to start off some where.

The base mesh was created in 3Ds Max then imported into Zbrush.
