Second, Set the Texture This post has the first half of setting the texture. As you can see in the last post, "set texture" is also found in the "object" menu next to "set material"

Setting Flames Texture- Continued
Sorry about the typo in discussing the scale shift box. As you can see in the box, the correct formula is x0.05+0.0, not x0.05=0.0 but don't worry about that. All you can change in that component is the numbers. If you want to mess around with the math symbols you need to pick a box for a custom math expression.

This is my current wip for the Akira biker characterforge. I'd say this guy has about 1800 polygons in his clothes at the moment. The figure is somewhat more dense. I still have two days to get him ship shape.

Anyway, here's a quick dragonfly I cobbled together for 3D Jams.

Here is how far I can go on my Akira biker in 3D with the time alloted. I am now going to finish it off as a 2D file.
After 2D work:

Thanks. I was worried about whether I was bumming people out with weirdness, but I want to make an animated short in the vein of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari though using a different story, updating the expressionism to reflect changes in art that have happened since that movie was made, and incorporating the "sky's the limit" possibilities of 3D digital animation. Obviously, I need to find out first what are the boundaries to which I can push the medium before I story board. Edgar Allen Poe is public domain so I will adapt one of his stories.
Pieces of that city I just busted out are on different plates so I could have them slowly rocking back and forth relative to one another as though they were rocking on gentle waves in a harbor. One of the limitations of Caligari was that the sets were static 2D. I can animate my sets to enhance the craziness factor. I am currently incorporating new things I have learned about "bevel/extrude" and parent/child relationships among objects. I think I have a good handle on my texturing, scaling, lathe modeling, boolean modeling, and basic mesh deformation for the moment. (also SketchUp for quick preparation of things that are basically squares and cylinders is largely under control.) Still to come: tubes and arrays. After that, detailed sculpting, animation and compositing with Blender (I now have the book). I will also need to go back through texturing with Blender in case those texture files I currently make don't transfer well between programs and learn UV mapping in Blender, since I find limitations at how Art of Illusion does UV mapping. Maybe the non-UV stuff will transfer OK, or maybe I can write a plug-in script of some sort to make it possible. That's a few months ahead of me. This summer I can probably begin animating the short.

That last thing I made into an array of an array having about 10,000 units. It looked really cool on the screen but it was too much for my computer to render. I guess I need to get to work on making a cluster.
The below is a set without props for the animation I hope to make.

I'm working on making the ultimate pizza for 3D Jams here. WIP thread is http://cghub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4900
contest topics and deadline: February 15, 2011- March 15, 2011 Challenge #10 "Totoro" or just a homage to the work of Studio Ghibli OR "The Ultimate Pizza Jam!" (-Yes, Pizza...Build your ultimate Pizza with whatever toppings you like or think will look awesome-) OR "The Duel" (requested by several users) (-Man vs. Man, Machine vs. Machine, Creature vs. Creature or whatever combination stirs your imagination-) What do you guys think, sausage and mushroom or pepperoni and black olive? I still need to tweak this pepperoni/sauce combination.

Fixed my pepperoni (and about half the turbulence in the sauce).
