Oh. I get you. I'm about to lose the Mudbox license but the advice will help keep me under control anyway since I figured out how to manipulate resolution in AOI yesterday.

I decided to try the pose and select/move tools in Mudbox while I still had the chance. No crashing. I don't know what those other guys were talking about. It's not radically different than an AOI skeleton except that Mudbox tries to center the joint in the object while AOI might misinterpret and put it in some really weird places sometimes. Mudbox wouldn't put joints in the flames for me but I did what I could scaling and moving different parts of them. I can deal with them else where.

The eyes, horns and hooves I want to make new objects for that are a little more over the top and I will probably give them a shiny brass texture to reflect the flames really nice. Earlier above I figured out how to stick lights in the flames pointing back at the bull and it looked about right.

I like your thumbs Lucid. There's a subtlety to the flames that I have abandoned and that longhorn style was something I thought hard about doing myself.

That rampant bull had too many polygons for my poor little computer to texture so I have stepped back a little bit.

So I don't think that I've posted or tried any of the competitions on this site. I'm starting a little late but here's my progress from today of a Satyr.

hopefully I can figure out how to put pics in my post

No biggie. In the posting window there is a black paperclip on a green square in the upper right. After you have used Attachment Manager to upload the file you put your cursor where you want the image to appear. Then you click on the paperclip thing and select the image that goes where your cursor is. (Took care of this one for you already. Best of luck.).

    Edit: Hey! Nice!

      wanted to do a cyclops!
inspired by god of war, specifically god of war 3, Carlo Arellano's concept for GOW chains of Olympus , Mr. Harryhausen, and Andre the Giant.

Glad to see all the newcomers! Posing I think I will be able to handle, but the UV mapping of a horn and hoof texture still elude me for the time being.

Hey Arttorney if you're having trouble unwrapping your UVs you could always try using Zbrush's UV Master. It won't layout the UVs for your character's hoof and horn perfectly but it is really fast (if you are familiar with Zbrush).
      Hope this helps

@Arttourney - What happened to the pose you had in your previous model?

@Arshievon - Welcome! Nice work on the cyclops, especially the polypaint!

@Jaradv - Welcome! Good work on that satyr, the exaggerated hands and legs give it an interesting silhouette.

As always, keep up the good work everyone!

Well, there were over a million faces on that one and my poor computer freezes when I try to apply a texture to it. I've come back to an earlier version. I figured out last month how to rig in AOI so the end of my Mudbox trial doesn't leave me stuck with this pose. I have been saving posing for last while I figure out some other stuff.

Sorry. I lack the money for Zbrush. I know how to do the UV work in AOI now, theoretically. I just haven't put it into practice yet because I got side tracked into these main textures for the bull and flames. I still need to fuzz out the surface of the flames a bit. They remind me of glass shards right now.

I got Blender working OK, and figured out how to open a file, but it remains very very weird. For some reason it always adds a cube that I didn't draw to the scene.

is it ok to make a bust? i dont think i have time to do a full body .
so my entrie will be cerberus. hope to finish it by sunday.

so had a little fun for about half an hour. designed the body (will show it in latter updates) and one head.
and overpainted fur cause i think i'll make it in max with hair and fur or i'll add it in zbrush. time will tell.
as for now i leave my first progress to your justice
