After the research above I made conclusion that railgun can't be effectively minituarized to a handgun.
I moved to coil guns then. Coilguns have copper coils around the barrel. There are a lot of existing coilguns with quite low bullet velocity but nevetherless real and working. ![]() http://www.coilgun.ru/ Numerous collection of handmade coilguns ![]() ![]() ![]() http://www.asylum.com/2010/09/22/lar...ke-a-kids-toy/ The most powerful and stylish handmade coilgun I've seen so far ![]() F*cking impressive. http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6622713.pdf I even searched for patents. http://www.google.com/patents?id=-D0...Rigsby&f=false 1934 magnetic gun. Detailed patent. http://www.tquad.com/# Actual(?) military prototype of coil rifle http://www.coilgun.eclipse.co.uk Very detailed coil gun assembling guide. ![]() It's a very good source about the electromagnetic theory as well ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1q6V...eature=related hand coilgun http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcAkS...eature=related quite powerful hand coilgun http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mobp...1&feature=fvwp coilgun rifle My prototype is coming soon ![]()

This is very impressive research man no BS creation here for sure
I would never have the patience to do this Thorough of an reference check on every piece, I would just make it look like it functioned properly by faking it on the exterior of the mesh ![]() my hats off to you sir ![]()

madpoint, thx man, I found the whole subject quite interesting and got a little bit too involved. Usually I'm trying just to fake the appearance as well

So that's the gun. Design is not really good, but that's not big part of a scene anyway.

Some progress.
Looks like I won't have a chance to finish in time. I will now concentrate on the sculpture, finish all bits and pieces for b&w render and do the textures and materials after the contest. Rider is coming soon.

Some progress.
There are a lot of little artifacts and some bits and pieces are missing (eyes, buttons, etc). This amount of details drives me mad. It's all unwrapped though. Mudbox goes quite slow with such heavy scene so I work with parts in separate scenes (btw it saves some space on a harddrive). It would be fully assembled on the highest res only in Maya render. I don't think I'll be able to make it even with the extension. Maybe I'll present just b&w render...

Man, I admire your (should I say) insane level of detail and thorough preparation work. Now that's what I call hardcore concept work! Hats off to you
Keep it up!
