There's one big update. I haven't done any more of sculpting, I only added the saddle.

Btw, mudbox is great to deal with bits and pieces of one big hard-surface mesh.

solid work here. some of the stuff look too thin to be printed though.
either way, i like the direction you are going, has a very star wars feeling to it.

                  fantasymaster, thank you, that's inspiring

o-MM-o, this it cool to hear that somebody believes in my possible victory, but if I do take the first place, I would have to do quite a bit of postwork to print the piece, you are right.

Nice work man, the saddle and the creature are very clean. Are you still planning on adding a rider for your creature?

Loraine_Howard_3, cheers, bro. I'm doing the rider at the moment, unfortunately I was quite busy for the last week and hadn't done a lot for progress

Let's make a little break from mudbox.
Today I shot couple photos in a park nearby. Photos suck heavily, as well as the weater.
I guess I should learn some photography and get a better camera. Though I have few friends with good photoskills and vast archives of cool forests I would probably ask them for a ref.

So why did I do this anyway? I don't want to recreate environment and I want to place my models in a photo/matte-painting. I've never done it before and very very interested in a result.

                        P.S This is Wellington.
P.P.S Some scenes from Lord of the Rings were filmed in this park.

                          Some progress.
I've got basic shapes and colors of the rider. Folds will come along with the pose.

I was looking for more interesting color palette than usually used in character design. I guess more than 90% of 3d characters are done in 2-3 colors while in reality everything is far more interesting and complicated.
I browsed numerous fashion shows for few hours. Some say you should be careful with that because there is always a chance to turn into a fairy at 12 pm and get in a marvelous gaytale.

Gun is not yet finished. There will be another post about the electromagnetic guns later, I made a big research about that.

Alien_Ape, appreciate your feedback, bro Yeah, I can't design/model anything until I totally believe it can really exist and it makes sense This is why I don't go in far future technologies because unfortunately it's impossible to predict everyday devices in 2400 AD e.g.

Although gun is not important here and it would be laying in holster half-visible I spent decent amount of time looking for the right 'shooting technology'.

I defined the tech level as near future (2040-2060)
Laser gun could be the one. But its too boring and common. To be honest I think we would have right energy source for laser rifles only after the 22nd century.

I decided to research electromagnetic technologies - Coil or Gauss cannons and Railguns.
I found an astonishing amount of information. I knew only about new US navy railgun system but there were electromagnetic guns since 1930s!

So in general railgun has two rails with magnets and energysource (battery and capacitors) Railgun is very powerful but it's definetely not a handgun - rifle, at least.
