Cortes: Pretty sweet mockup, looks very mature for some reason, kinda like how they did variant bookcovers for kids and adults on the harry potter books

I decided to color one of the thumbs I posted earlier, the contest has become more about redesigning the character for me I guess then the actual wraparound bookcover :P

Wow, Awesome work you guys!
Felicia - great progress, those geppetto sketches rock.

rhemrev - looking good, the warm tones on the puppet look nice over the cool blue background.

CortesNYC - Nice work, good composition and lighting.

ionic - this is really coming along, geppetto looks awesome. Pinocchio feels a bit symmetrical though, I'd play with a tilting the shoulders or twisting a leg just to make him more of interesest to the viewer, just my two cents.

deadbyxmas - love the design and linework, I hope it doesn't change too much when you color because it would definitely work with just pencil and ink!

great topic and some lovely entries already - enjoying how this is shaping up, and wanted to chip in something (even if theyre slightly tongue-in-cheek)

so heres some thumbnails - first couple are basically what would happen if gepetto was a little more ambitious...3rd is a more horror inspired spin on things.

would love to finish up something for the deadline, but dont know if i'll be able. Will still be watching how this thread goes though. Great stuff...

Really liking everyones images posted here. Here's one of my Pinocchio sketches. I'd love to be able to finish this contest, but not sure I'll have the time with work and all.

Here is an update for my cover.
The front side will have Geppetto and the Cricket and the back side will have Magniafucco and possibly the Owl and the Crow.

LorneMcLean- Nice sketch so far. He has a lot of personality.
pixelherder- Hehehe! Also I like the simplicity of the top 2 and all the character sketches.
Santana- Great progress so far! I love Geppetto's tattoo.
SecutorDesign- Looks good so far. Geppetto's expression looks a little harsh like he is in pain. I think also Pinocchio's crop is awkward. I think pulling the camera a little back to give more room on the right would help a lot.
rhemrev- Love your character development! I like the dark background better.

Thank you naetronic, I agree, I'm trying to keep it quite faithful to the original concept, and above all, simple (i.e. not be lured into the temptation of overworking things...also because otherwise I'll never finish in time

).
Anyway, he's the linework, the colours and other small things have yet to be defined, I just blocked it in with flats to make it more readable. And added a general idea of book cover feel.

Hey guys,
I'm proposing we extend the deadline out another week to the the 28th of November after the busy busy Thanksgiving holiday. That way everyone has to time to complete their cover illustration and possibly work up a black and white chapter spot illustration. Chime in if you'd like more time or if you're fine with the current deadline (this Sunday).

I love what you have so far. It really feels like a background for an animation.

LorneMcLean- Thanks! Yes she is the Fairy with the Turquoise hair (according to wiki).

Deadbyxmas- Love it so far!

Here is an update.
I think I will leave out the extra characters for the back cover (little corner spots). There is usually a paragraph about the book and I don't want it to be too squished (the front cover is kinda pushing it).

The deadline is this Sunday?? I wonder why I thought it was Tuesday, must have got muddled up...so yeah, NO WAY I'd finish it time (or it would be really rushed), so big thumbs up from me for extending the deadline...!

sounds good!
deadline extension would be awesome, i had ideas for that additional illustration, so I would def have a more time for that.
