Sork, my screen is off, so take my comments on the colors with a grain of salt.

Her skin seems a bit red and blue, but not everywhere. I love the arms, warm skin there and vs the window. However, her legs look like she’s always wearing pants, milkbottle type, and lack that warmth there. Then there’s the face, with the blues in there; it makes her kinda zombie/tired looking. Wish there were some more reds in the face, around the cheeks and nose. I’m not too sure about the chest, as it looks younger than the face, being milky white and high. Overall, the skin tones make sense for a photo/ real person, but in a painting it just looks inconsistent. So, bring some harmony in there.

The pillows are too close in color for me, but that might be cos of my screen. Perhaps add a pattern or texture there? That couch is not reacting to her weight. She’s not a fatass, but if you add some wrinkles and sagging, it’ll look like she’s sitting on it.

Flowers in the background look out of place, cos there’s too many variations in there of colors. It looks like a patternbrush, not like flowers. Better hand paint some big flowers, more consistent with the lightning of the painting and less flat looking.

Windowdesign: it’s too flat/graphic at the moment. Love the shape, but it’s too dark and takes attention away from her. It makes the window in general very flat. One way to fix it is to go for a lighter tone and then add some shadows on the darkest places, or add some blurry edges to all of the design, like the sun shines in straight (careful, you might lose that awesome design in there). It has lots of small holes, so it might not get enough light in. White lace curtains could work there though. Do think of what the influence is on her, might have to add some insane detailed light on the face/hair/arm then. Perhaps add some grande theatre curtains to the window?

Adding a scene through the window will also help with establishing it as a window, what would suit? For some reason, I have to think of laundry. Another way that helps is if you add some things that stand in front of the window. Another vase or giant potted plant? Statues? Books?

What are you adding to the green left part?

There, thoroughly critted.

Where her hair flows out on the pillow might leave some openings between the major hair bunches that lead into some deeper dark areas. I'm thinking that might be an area you can punch value differences between the dark places and the outer hair. It might help suggest the curvature of the back of her skull down low there by her neck.

Just popping in to say - very nice SB!

About the last painting - I like where you're headed with it but I think the lighting could be modified to make everything pop out more. Right now it's quite dark and could use some strong areas of light & shadow to add contrast and show form.

The window looks like a pretty strong lightsource, so you could probably add some highlights on the woman & couch. Also - try blocking in her hair as a solid mass first, then break it down into sections and only render a few individual strands, at least for now.

Did a quickie paintover to show you what I mean ... hope this helps & good luck! (ps my colour theory is pretty wonky, so I mostly focused on lighting.)

I love the details you go into in your figures it makes them really interesting to look at, though it strikes me that they are all fairly static. I don't know if you do any gesture drawing or quick doodles rather than full intensive paintings but setting a much shorter time limit might help you really get some life and moment into the images.

Thanks for all the good crits, guys!

Was doing this as a colour study for warm up today, cut from my blog: "Decided to make a colour study to warm up today, ended up working on it a bit longer than I intended, but it's a pretty fast image to be me. It's based on some photos of an old run down house we took this summer before it was torn down. Really liked because it was very clear that it had been enlarged several times over the years and you could see the different decades that had happened on how it was built. I prolly missed a ton of subtle things and went over with big paws on other stuff, but I think I need to that more so I can learn to focus on the right things. I tend to overdo things, especially details... Not today. "

    From my blog:

    "Colour/animal study

So, to do what I've been doing mostly every day lately (but in other situations...), I decided to "do something I don't know how to do" when it came to drawing as well - drawing a white animal. Another study that was meant to be a fast warm up that lasted a bit longer, but again a pretty fast image for me.

This is Turak and Bast while they were puppy and kitten. Turak is dads dog, a Samojed that didn't know when he was supposed to stop grow, and is today a smashing 55 kilos. (That's waaaay more than a Samo should weigh, but he has the right proportions - he just happens to be a giant.) The cat is what used to be my cat, but after we switched houses I didn't dare take him with me because we were afraid he'd start trekking over the road between the houses. So since these two came to us with two days in between and basically grew up together (obviously, from the picture) he stayed where dad is living now.

Anyways, on to next drawing. "

Cute updates, Sorky! I like the texture on the cabins a lot and the pets are adorable.

I can't believe I totally forgot about those cast shadows! O.o

      Thanks guys.

Dragged out my India Ink yesterday, and decided to something traditional for once. I used to use my inkwell a lot with a brush, but it's been ages and ages. And I could feel that while working - and see it on the end result - but it's nice doing it again.

I think I might have a go at a pre Dominance War. I was gonna go for shadow and corrupted, but now I have technomages instead.

Some updates on Dominance War V. I think I need to do as much as possible early one as I have no idea how much time I'll have after this week.

This was posted earlier, and after some suggestions I ended up with the last one for technomage - so far. I'll work on another character now because I'm going blind on it, and I kind of really need some input before going to later stages. Or else it'll be double or triple the work to get it pushed to finished...

That last one is cleaning up nice. She has a good grim look that I think helps. She herself is so dark that I think she will read better against a light background instead of the dark one you have.

I am presuming the globe above her head is a major light source in the scene since "up" things like the tip of her nose and the top of her breasts are lit. Would the undersides of her upper arms be darker/in shadow? Are shadows going to be cast from one part of her across another part?

Thanks I did get farther on the image, but bailed out on it. I might post the further progress later on when I've cleaned it up a bit.

For now I just wanted to post what I did while my kid was taking her nap today, pretty fast drawing to be me.

Thanks! Never got too far on it though...

Decided to dump a couple of sketches...

Here's as far as I came on the DW, I still want to make that a proper image, but at the moment it is nowhere near completion, of course.
