This next challenge is going to tie into the Sheridan story after we have a winning entry.

For this challenge, participants must design one of any of the eight immortals according to the Chinese Myth described in this article:

THE EIGHT IMMORTALS

The catch is that the character must be a humanoid robot.

Do your best to interpret whichever character you choose from the description on the wiki page. These characters are being designed for a science fiction storyline, but I'll leave the quality of their materials up to you. By that I mean, you decide whether this machine is low-tech or high-tech, rusty or new. The design of this next character will influence the story directly.

RULES AND GUIDELINES:

Layout/Size: Keep all submissions to 1000-1200 pixels in height or width. It's okay if its slightly larger or smaller than that, just don't go too crazy.

Submissions: Post Final Images in Finals Thread (To be posted later.)

-One Entry Per Person

-Minimum 3/4 of character must be visible.

-Any medium is acceptable except photography.

-No sketches for finals, must show finished work.

-Follow the character description to the best of your ability.

-Focus on your illustration. Pay attention to anatomy, shape, form, and lighting. USE REFERENCE. Don't fret if answers don't always come too quickly. Remember, critical thinking is key to great character design.

Here is my rough sketch for Zhongli Quan, the second oldest immortal. Many parts will be redesigned since overall the parts are not consistent. Haven't nailed down the character 100% (story and background) hence my mind wandering all over the place.

Hey all,

I'm going to extend the deadline for this CharacterFORGE to allow everyone enough time to learn of the challenge and for folks to produce some quality work. It is no secret that recently these challenges haven't been punctual, and for that I apologize. My schedule has changed drastically in the last month, though now things seem to have settled a bit once again.

I intend for things to get back on track specifically with regards to the original CharacterFORGE storyline involving Sheridan and the survivors of the crash. Redesign themed challenges will still happen, though not as frequently as they have been.

Thanks for everyone understanding, and I'm really looking forward to seeing some cool stuff from everybody.

The NEW DEADLINE fort his challenge will be

i'm also doing the female immortal, it will make for a nice pin-up portfolio piece. I started my thumbnail sketches like a standard pin-up, but i will def be incorporating more robotic and cultural elements. I might do two even tho choosing the final art will be tough.

BMJ - i read the notes on your image and it reminded me of a Hajime Sorayama piece, i suggest you research his work, he's got many pieces in the style (i think) you're going for. (eg. Android Girl)

CortezNYC - i like your thumbnails a lot, but just remember the entry requirements "-Minimum 3/4 of character must be visible."

Nice topic, looking forward to seeing everyone's interpretation.

A movie that springs to mind for people looking for inspiration is the asian epic movies " Red Cliff ", which has really good character development similar to those of the 8 immortals.
