Hi Brynn, got something I wanted to double check with you, >>

IWCA Requirements: The Intergalactic Wildlife Conservation Alliance – IWCA – is interested in the skeletal characteristics of this species and is requesting studies of both the organism and it’s skeleton.
Please include both a study of the organism's external appearance along with a study of it's skeleton.

So does that means in our final submission we have to include the skeleton study along with the illustration?

Yes. I'd prefer it to all be in one entry but you can submit it as two entries if you need to. However, make sure you keep it in all in one post. The voting thumbnail should be of your main image.

Hi guys. I've been so wrapped up in other stuff lately I haven't even looked at this fine thread in a while.

Apologies for the lateness of the WIP Brynn, there's usually not a lot of time between drawing and render. Crappy excuse I know.

Last minute input for you guys.

Art_is_fact: Nicely done! The snout thingamajiggers are awesome(was going to do those myself. I would suggest adding some width to the canvas so that the right leg isn't cut off, and change the overlap on the back legs at the joints. The details ( in this case contour lines) suggest that the legs are receding into space but the joints say that they are coming forward.

Jukka: Sweet drawing as usual! I have to admit you're kind of the reason I joined in on this one. Love me some stiff competition. Something tells me you'll be adding another CPA star to your list.

    cyl1981
: I'm sure it's already been said and you're probably getting ready to enter this badass piece into the finals, but epic job! Great action, excellent detail and pure goodness all around. You'll be a great addition to this little contest if you can play every week. Only crit is the scale of the creature in the rendering. I think it's the heavy atmosphere between the foreground and middle ground (especially as relates to the body of the creature)that gives the effect of this medium sized beastie being further away and much larger than it really is. Probably too late but never hurts to have a fresh set of eyes. Really looking forward to your final and looking through your gallery.

Well, looks like it's gonna be a small group on this one. Good luck to all!

Here's what I've got so far.
Original line drawing on top and the render in progress on the bottom.

Hey there Scorge! Excited you could jump in at the last minute! I really like what you have going on. It seems a bit dark though. I wish I could make out more of the critter. You might consider brightening up that right side a bit more. Right now that skeleton is taking all of the attention away from your organism. It's in progress so I'm sure it will level out. I really like the idea of putting them together in the same image though - like we're holding up an xray or something.

    Looking forward to the final!

Excited to see everyone's finals actually Remember to get your entries in by tomorrow night!

    Yayy!

Scorge, Schweeeet!! Glad to be an inspiration Great to have more entries.
Really nice looking lizzard you got there again! Looking quite believable. We'll see who gets the next star Agree with Brynn about the darkness thing.. but its in progress..

Art_is_fact, cool design! Like it a lot. The skin could maybe have some cool looking pattern to it? Now it's kinda plain.
Somehow I could see the purple nose thing repeated in other places of the body as well. Or maybe some purple coloring
in the legs or belly or something. It just looks a little lonely up there
Also putting in some atmosphere could really help tie the creature and the backgrond better together.
    Looking forward to the final!

Here's some progress. I really need to start drawing the skeleton.

    WOW!!
Jukka thats incredible how you just recently entered and already a Kickass entry amazing, I see that alot in these challenges
man I wish I could colour like that and hit those highlights like that, I am not feeling to good about mine and it doesn't look like I'm gonna finish it
plus I need to seriously work on my technique instead of just throwing together crap on a great idea and calling it done like I've been doing as of late even though its so far from it ,so I'm gonna take a break from these challenges and improve where I need to and come back when I know I can stand toe to toe with you guys

    Goodluck guys
This looks like a battle between cyl1981 and Jukka for first IMO, but all great entries

Thanx alot for the Inspiration guys

Hi everyone, apologie for the after post, been trying to finish my piece off , but I really want to thank everyone for the support and the cc, it helps me develop and learn as I go.

Jukka: thanx for been so supportive, I would not have noticed the contrast issue if you hadn't mentioned it, it really helps. I must say your design looks amazing, I like the way you handle the lighting and the atmosphere, two thumbs up

Art_is_fact: keep the idea rolling, looking forward to your final

Scorge: inspirational piece as well, and thanx for pointing out the size issue ^ ^

Brynn: thanx once again for all the supports and the opportunities, it truly a wonderful experience

Here is a fill in on my WIP, to show how I got to my final, look forward to all the final entries

PS: sorry about the size of the image >///<

Just a quick reminder. The IWCA requires a skeletal study (this can be a bit rougher or simplified) in addition to your image. Please either upload it it as a separate attachment or integrate it into your image.

I'll be back later to leave some comments.

Entries are due tonight before 11:59 PST - http://cghub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3737

@ Scorge - I'm sad to see you bow out but no worries. There will be other topics.

@ cyl1981 - Looks awesome! I feel like you really were able to grasp the sense of scale there in the last few paintovers. Great work!

@ Jukka - Beautiful lighting! I love the way he's laying down there. Great work!

@ Art_is_fact - Great job! I really like your revision. Definitely feels a bit more "other-worldly". I would follow Jukka's advice about the skin and texture. It will add to the credibility of the organism - patterns make it look as though it's evolved over time in a certain way.

Awesome entries so far everyone! Lets push through until tonight!
