    Default Guess I'll start here

What inspires you when it comes to vehicle and mech design?

I've always had fondness for robots as far as I can remember. The inspiring images to me were Gigantor and Astroboy when I was growing up. And of course all those early Japanese robots from the 70's and the robots up to now. I also remember a lot of actual earth movers, coupled with a film I saw on car being assembled from start to finish.

for me personally my 'inspiration' mainly comes about when i take the limitations expressed in the design, the required function of the design and than try to avoid everything that has been done before while still making the concept familiar to the audience.

so i guess thats more of a formula - i don't often take an object or animal and try to lift elements of that into an industrial design - assuming i have free reign. recently i was asked to do a few vehicles and ID based on the roman empire in the near future, and in that case you have more of the pieces already placed. its than just my job to adapt them in a logical line.

when it comes to things that are commonly drawn (mechs, babes, demons), I like to try to incorporate something very opposite or just different (be it art style, design, theme) to the subject and mix it in, creating a unique version of whatever it is. Dunno if that makes sense.

      ...hm nevermind, it doesn't. Shit.

I feel somewhat that I can't help but bring some lifelike inspiration into mechanical works. It's not so much having an animal in mind and drawing inspiration from it.. as it is... giving it personality?

I think just the whole idea of big armoured mechs and other robots as a general is really cool... i spose my first inspiration (although i dont draw heaps of em) would have to be Mechwarrior 2. I saw that and was forever lost to mechs and mecha's.

Any mechanical robots specially Gundams. You know that anime? I just love how they works you know. If ever I would build a robot, I would design it from Gundams.
