Very nice job with yoda, he looks awesome and its a very interesting take on him.

Thanks also for your post on the use of reference and your views on it.
I been focusing on doing a lot of studies lately but now find I struggle to work without some kind of reference. I'm now starting to feel my work and studies are suffering since I feel like I'm not making any progress and remembering anything for them.

Your post has really made a lot of sense to me as I can now see that I don't focus hard enough on the things that I probably do already know.

I'll be keeping what you said in mind when I get back to my work this week.

sooooo didn't post for some days now, because I took some time off spending a few days with my family. SO didn't paint much being away from my computer and my tablet. Here's soooome sketchwork I did though. Felt kinda strange drawing with my pencil again, got so used to the tablet

now that I am home again I am gonna photoshop the shit outta those two, time to tighten up that portfolio, time's running
Ah btw the voting for the yoda challenge is on, so take a look at the votes and give your vote to the one who deserves it the most
for now, here are the two new concept sketches. finished versions and my thoughts on these coming soon

Very inspiring stuff, man. I'm so doing the same thing starting next june!
I hope you like specific critique as much as I do, as I'm about to give you one So, regarding that drawing of this lady with her appendages in different positions. I think it's a little bit misleading practice, because the center of weight would be distributed differently every time, and other things would change, boobs would be positioned otherwise. What I'm saying is that for me it's a nice way to test my characters' limbs' arcs of movement, but not the best way to study anatomy - 5 different poses would do it much better, I think

tmth- thanks man! yeah you're absolutely right. sketches like that are meant for personal entertainment anyways, not really to learn anatomy or something.

            LisandroG- thanks man

soooo really nothing finished to show, just cranking out these new paintings and trying to push and push and push it, as always, so process might be a little slow right now. But I guess it's okay as long as I learn a shitload outta it
so all I can show you, just to show that I'm still alive and painting teh shit outta my hands, is that little "preview" of my newest painting. If the process doesn't speed up there are about two more days left to finish it

              progressing

I think that one (which is conciderably bigger than those thumbs ) will be finished by tomorrow.

Today was one of that very very VERY awesome days for painting, it's just ridiculous how much I love that shit
Do you have these moments where you're having such a blast while painting, that it literally brings tears to your eyes? Crazy shit, I tell you
I can't even describe that but feeling and believing that just picking up the pen and drawing something, brings you so much nearer to your goals with every stroke, it's so friggin intense, and simply SO awesome

                  Columbussage- thank you man

pjmagalhaes- haha, thank you man to be serious, I gotta say that it seems so long ago when I said that, and I have to admit that this attitude changed heavily, so I hope you're not dissappointed
You know, it's basically that way that it's completely natural that I or actually any painter I've met so far "liked" painting everything, simply because we all like painting itself, the process.
When I got kinda stuck in that "uh what I wanna do" attitude I decided to just listen to me because I simply couldn't believe myself that I REALLY like painting everything equally. and what I found out listening to myself was just that. You don't have to find out what you LIKE to paint, cause that would be pretty much everything when you're serious about painting. You have got to see what you LOVE to paint, and what I mean by love is practically speaking just the thing which makes your painting process feel you the same way some people feel playing video games all day long. YOu gotta have to paint it and time just fucking rushes by, and in the end of the day you're sitting there in front of you tablet or whatever you choose to paint with and go "fuck, the day is already over?". THIS ought to be your direction from now, this is where you should go now. Cause of course it's cool to paint a badass landscape but is it what you want to do from the bottom of you heart?
I think that this is really the point, you have got to love it with everything you got. Finding something cool is easy and doesn't probably have a lot of substance as far as spending your life with it is concerned, but really loving it is a whole other kind of intensity you experience while painting. You just must stop being afraid of listening to youself in that pool of awesome artists where pretty much everybody seems to be kicking our asses with their awesome artwork
Once I started having that whole new attitude towards what I really want it was crystal clear.
I got into that game of doing art (or a BIG part of it is) by being fascinated by anatomy and everything you can do with it. expressing pretty much everything about live by playing around with muscles and bones, no matter if humans, animals or creatures. This is what really keeps ME going. No kickass environment or spaceship design can make my heart bump as hard as a believable creaturedesign I have never seen before in my life.

so here's teh finished painting (jeez again a post with so much talking included)

I think I am pretty happy (lol) with how this one turned out, although right now I want to start doing some more "exciting" stuff, you know, badass lighting, dynamic poses, more sort of the illustrative stuff, so lets go on to the next one

THIS is the real big thing. THanks for your words

I followed you here from conceptart and Im happy I did
This is what i was looking for these days, b/c i started playing starcraftII which is pretty cool but I wondered how it may be that I experience so much fun with that and how i lost that with my art. Now i know what i might have lost track of.

Your painting is badass!! btw. I lack any other words to describe it. What i like most is the light coming from an angle that allows it to lighten the chest and the foreams. I can really see it bouncing off of those surfaces.

What are those things he holds in his hands? stones? for fighting or for better climbing?

The one critique would be that the right kneecap looks awkward to me, anatomically speaking. The lower leg bone makes kindof an s-turn, turning IN first, then turning out.
If you try to hold on to human anatomy this in-turn is (for the lower leg) wrong , but maybe this is your special creature anatomy-
everything is fine and up to you then
The idea of putting hair on his face and throat is really cool and looks awesome. i was really surprised about it being pitchblack.
The same as I was surprised to see the lighting.

What resolution did you paint this in?
The load of details is nice, especially those veins and stuff, and the light going thru the skin, gj there.

MartinW- thanks man. haha yes I think I went a little too crazy with that leg anatomy. maybe I am going to repaint it sometime in the future.

so here's the next painting. Played around a lot with some new stuff on thatone, think it turned out pretty nicely for that surely learned a ton! And this one was so much fun, I didn'T actually want to finish it just to keep on painting, AWESOME

So there's one thing I want to ask you guys, and even if there aren't that many people wieving this thread, I think that posting this here is for sure better than not doing it at all.

The thing is, I want to take a class over at

                      https://www.schoolism.com/?tag=11433

one class costs around 1000$ and there's absolutely no way for me to get so much money, since I got enough problems saving my money for food each month
But there IS a possibility to get POINTS for making people sign up to that site and buy one of those classes or "just" one of the kickass instructional videos.

So if you have 5 minutes left, just sign up at schoolism using the link I've posted abough and just take a look at the offering of classes and videos they have. You do not have to buy anything right now, just quickly sign up to the site and I will get points whenever you decide in the future to attend classes or purchase videos.

Thanks so much if you might take a few minutes just to sign up to https://www.schoolism.com/?tag=11433 !

ah and btw: if you sign up, you can of course make people singn up as well and collect points with your account

So here we go with some art finally, on to the next one

Haha really love that last one, the nice disgusting variety of texture is well executed.

One thing I've noticed is that the last 3 critters (including Yoda) have a pretty similar facial structure and colour treatment, would be nice to see more variety

What I meant was that they all have a similar blueish-grey skin tone with warm orange and purplish accents and a fairly strong ambient light on em, and were in similar dark desaturated environments. If you zoom em all oout an look at em as thumbnails they seem to be part of the same series. Good if youre going for consistency, maybe not if you weren't.
