These look great!! Ah man, I wish I would have seen this challenge earlier! Oh well I think I'm going to participate regardless, even if I don't get any points or can't be in the running.

SCWatson - Can I still post it up on this thread even if its late... well regardless I'm illustrating it!

Go for it! you've still got several days, including the weekend, so it's not too late yet!

      thank you guys

naetronic's wip totally inspired me 'cause I like that kind of painterly style, with all that quick brushstrokes, no zooming at all, no polishing...just paint. Fantastic and really satisfiyng.

        Default Participating & refs

Hey guys! I'd like to try my hand at this challenge

I've been researching for this topic and I'm thinking I'll lean towards the Chen Yi Sao side of the topic.

For others doing work based on Chen Yi Sao:

I found an interesting nugget of info regarding Qing dynasty clothing:
Most young people, that is, overseas Chinese and foreigners of today, often think that the Qing Dynasty clothing is the Chinese traditional clothing. But the Qing Dynasty is not representative of the attire for the entire area south of the Yellow River. The Chinese traditional clothing is basically in the style of the Han Dynasty, which is typically characterized by wide gowns and broad sleeves.
This excerpt is from an article about a theatrical performance that made great efforts towards making the costumes historically accurate. The article can be found here: http://www.theepochtimes.com/news/6-12-19/49504.html

          Wow, great find CrowCandy!

bergcrantz - loving the emotion she seems to be invoking, very moody

notpill - this style is excellent, I think you've really nailed an appropriate colour palette

I also found a nice image of a replica sword from the Qin dynasty.

I hope it will help you guys paint some swashbuckling action!

naetronic - I accidentally skipped past yours, I don't think my computer loaded it quickly enough! The whole composition and amount of consistent attention you've given the piece is fantastic. The style is very inspiring, too Hope we can see some more updates on it!

Another update from me, just grounding everything very slowly. Lots of places to get back to working on but any critiques would be appreciated as always

CrowCandy - thanks for sharing the link there. Extremely useful!

Hey guys, I was finding the font for the template title and thought it might be worth noting that the "Anne Y. Writer" is in Harrington font; the rest-"Pirate Island"-is in Viner Hand ITC font. Both were in my font list so they're probably default.

Obviously you can change the font but just in case you wanted the default, hope it helps!

Jeez you're really topping it more and more - don't know how you do it!

Are we to submit just the front or the spine and back as well? If it's just the cover I think I'll call it here, I regrettably have other things to tend to Thanks so much for the opportunity SCWatson, keep going strong guys

front cover only (fitting the template dimension) and the design it's up to us.
