Hello fellow drawing jammers...aka DJ's
sit back and get comfy...
LOTS to READ! sorry!
This is the moment we've all been waiting for! the official kickoff of the drawing jam thread!
the mods have discussed debated and wrestled over every conceivable option that could ever be conceived and through very careful analysis of all available data we've come up with the following:
Proposing
3 sticky threads:
1) An "idea pool thread"
-this is where everyone can dump their thread topic ideas
2) THE “sketch what you suck at until you don't suck at it anymore" CHALLENGE
-this might have to be a separate sub forum to keep things organized
-not sure we'll see how it pans out.
3) The Weekly Drawing Jam:
-This is where we, the DJMods choose a topic, and we all draw for a week and post our sketches.
Explanations below:
OFFICIAL IDEA POOL
The DJMs would like to setup an official idea pool thread. This is where you submit an idea suggestion into one thread to keep things nice and tidy.
The DJMs will dip into this pool if:
1) An idea really jumps out at them
2) There seems to be high demand for a particular idea or
3) We're just simple out of idea juice lol...ahem...uh so the basic rules are as follows:
Stay on topic-random discussion or conversation should be left out of this thread-although it’s fun to get off topic and be silly once in awhile and is welcome elsewhere, we would prefer if this thread remained on topic and easy to refer to.
"THE SKETCH WHAT YOU SUCK AT UNTIL YOU DON'T SUCK AT IT ANYMORE" Challenge AKA the GET BETTER THREAD
This is the place to leave the ego at the door people! scary I know
This is what a sketchbook is really for-to study and explore the world-imaginary or otherwise. It shouldn't be a mini portfolio or gallery with every page a new finished piece to show off - I think a proper sketchbook should be almost like your journal or diary in a way-this is where your secret weakness's hide!. I obviously see this as an ideal-and it's not a strict rule by any means-sometimes the stars align and the blood actually reaches your brain and through whatever other reason everything works out and a sketch develops into a beautiful piece of artwork!
RULES/GUIDELINES
Pretty much what the title suggests.
Look over your body of work and pick out one thing (there could be many but choose one for now) that you know you need to work on-but you keep avoiding because it's either not appealing to you or because you hate looking bad or whatever reason etc
For example-in my gallery-I don't have many backgrounds-or girls-or realism or very cartoony styles-most of it is comic book style characters
I also know of a few aspects that I avoid overcoming-proper anatomy studies so that I stop making up the leg or back muscles haha... as well as proper lighting and colour studies ...and so on...sigh
In conclusion I hope this thread will become a place for artists to overcome their secret 'fears' and grow through interaction with the major talent lurking throughout this site. A place where we can help each other overcome common mistakes or weakness-hopefully the masters will be active here in giving critiques and tips and some much needed but hard to swallow "tough love".
WEEKLY DRAWING JAM
As for the weekly drawing jam with the 'just for fun' weekly topics, the moderators will be taking weekly shifts. Jeff has shown he's the eager beaver and would like to start the weekly ideas thread first, I'll go the following week and Bar t(Rice and Eggs) will go the third and the cycle continues.
so that's it so far folks! hopefully this will be the beginning of something fun-and the end of realllyyy lonnng posts for you guys to read(sorry!)
thnx for reading!
