We are working on our site skins and want to take a community poll to see what you would like for the site default: Light UI (Current - light BG and dark text) or Dark UI (dark bg with light text). We have already recieved votes to make the forums dark by default, but this would be site wide, all pages default UI color scheme.

FYI a dark UI would be something like

You decide the future of the Hub!

hmmm, I like it lighter, it's fresher and gives CGhub a certain look...

From a graphic and readability Point of View, the current light shade is best overall.

For presentation of imagery, the darker UI can present imagery/galleries more due to the contrast/framing.

Existing forums all already have dark frames. This doesnt mean its better. Its just the current vogue.

Overall, do keep the current skin as is for longevity. Besides which, CGHUb has a refreshing light look to it, whereas a darker tone is more commonplace. (and if must, provide an option for site users to change skins as desired - larger semi thankless task)

I agree with the lighter aspect, since most others out their are dark gives it a curtain uniqueness?
seems a bit fresher.

I do like the light colored forums. Sometimes late at night they are to bright. I think my mood changes hourly.

Maybe consider not hard-coding a color theme but allow users choose between a couple color themes. If you check out the the autodesk forum site http://area.autodesk.com/. They let you pick a theme color (top right).

If something like this could be implemented, I think everyone would be happy.

After a while the light also hurts my eyes. I much prefer an option to have a medium or darker background to toggle back and forth.

I agree, at night the super bright color it is now is too bright and is garish. However among daytime ambient sunlight it is fine. I think user choice is optimal; but this as a default is still pretty and unique.

the light color scheme is what appealed to me in the first place. it makes it easier to read and looks fresh. one of the reasons i didn't like the other cg forums and made camp over here.

I think the option for a darker skin would be nice. The light colours are ok, but after a short while they begin to hurt my eyes so I'm forced to leave the website

Also I think darker colours are better for viewing images on than lighter ones, but that might just be me!
