Nice choice to start off! Seeing as it's Cavorite that 'propels' the rocket maybe it should be Cavoritepunk at its finest!

          ooh, fun choice!

*edit: Using the above image as a template, are these supposed to be wrap-around or is that up to the individual?

          mogster Go for it!

Dave For this one, it's wrap around. I can provide a psd template if you want so you can see where the live text / images will be. Actually, I will do that a bit later today.

Aly Duly noted, sir! (though I kept the reference to steampunk ;P ) I added a Cavorite reference to the list!

Ex0rc15t No, hence being listed under "Optional." I put that there mostly to encourage people to interact. You don't have to post another thing until you're ready to post your final!

          Best,
          ~S

Hi, and thanks for this challenge =).

I am afraid that i have not understood quite well what we were supposed to do.. so I have some questions :

*Is it just the "mascot" ,based on the HG wells book ? So we make just a picture that will be inserted where the "?" is ?
*Or do we have to redo everything while keeping in place the position of the elements ? (place and size of the typos, logos) ?
*For people who have not read the book, this kind of subject is a bit tricky.. how to know if an element in the picture is maybe not relevant to the book (let's imagine for example i make one character having a hat, while in the book he says he never wear any ^^). So : what importance may be given to this kind of mistakes ?

I hope my questions where not too dumb
Happy new year by the way !

            Hi yoyo,

I'm sorry if I was not clear in the explanation of the activity. Please see below:

The object of Story Tellers is to create a "book cover" image - this means working within the parameters of a book cover, usually fiction. Sometimes it will be a "wrap-around" image, sometimes just the front cover. This week's round is a wrap-around, including both the front and back of the hypothetical book we are working.

For our purposes here, what is meant by "mascot round" is that the winner of this round will have their image used to promote this activity for the next year. That's a lot of exposure. There is also some talk behind the scenes about additional prizes for this round, but more on that later.

The winning image will be used in the header graphic so:

Thank you for pointing out the typos. I try to catch them, but they do slip through.

You are responsible for the image only. The image will be inserted behind the text/logos as shown above.

Well, here you are correct, this does get a bit tricky. My suggestion would be to approach this as a commission piece (as activities such as this are designed as portfolio fillers), and give it as much attention as you would for a client. But that's up to you. You can go off in an entirely different direction if you want, but if it is too far off the mark, it won't be H.G. Well's 'First Men in the Moon.'

If you have not read the book, you can pick it up at the library, I am sure, or use the Gutenberg Press link that I provided under reference above, and again here. It contains the entire text of the book. When that is not available, it will be up to the you to do the research, but we will do our best to provide as much reference as possible.

Imagine this activity as a book club that gets together and draws pictures every two weeks

            I hope that helps!

            All the best,
            ~Shane

Thank you so much for these explanations, they were a great help !

Will there have a kind of ranking, even though there is "no second place" ?

Not for this round. We may do rounds were we will tier the winners, but the Mascot Round is very much a "winner takes all" round.

              Best,
