well, there's nothing bad in your turtle but actually it's a bit tricky to overpaint if we don't know what are u searching for:
what kind of painting are you tryin' to do? Cartoony portrait? comic style? So you are on the right path. Take a look at some disney references like this
If you want a 'portrait' of your turtle you have to observe carefully and forget what you think you know. Just look.
Are you sure it is sooo greeeny?
just my two cents

Those hands are not so bad KathrynSBurke. In each of the images the upper left hand is the one that looks the weirdest to me. In the first image the upper left hand seems to have a lot shorter fingers than the hand next to it that seems to be its mate.
In the other image, the fingers seem extra long and spidery.
In both cases I think the hands look well within the range of human diversity. Some people really do have long fingers. If you focus in on very average finger lengths you will be less likely to get called out by anatomy sticklers. Save the unusually long or short fingers for when you are drawing a character that is supposed to make people feel uneasy. In that case, exaggerate enough so that anatomy sticklers can see you are doing it on purpose and that will probably be enough to creep people out in general.
