Anatomicae #37- Imortalized

How to attach images

Hi guys this round will be a little different it was an Idea suggested by Blindrat!

-Objective
Often when creating illustrations and or concept work you'll one day have to make a statue. This is an opportunity to go outside and explore as many parks and plazas have one or two statues. This study helps to understand how the organic form is translated into stone/bronze/gold/steel/etc and in turn helps t understand texture of materials.

Next take an image of a living creature posed and independent of an environment. Then you are to place this statue in an environment. This helps you to understand not just what you've learned form the previous study, but also to learn how things work color wise within and without context.
-Rules and Requirements
- Challengers are required to show their WIP and Reference Materials. These challenges are an opportunity for all of us to make contact with other artists and be a part of a growing community and it would be unfair for the artists who are making an effort to share their work and ideas if you are allowed to enter the finals without participating in the WIP thread.
- Challengers are to do an image of their own statue for the final product as in take an image and "immortalize" it into stone or bronze we don't want an already existing statue.
- and as always remember to always post whatever reference you are using!

- Here are a couple reference images and some links of interest:

So here's a bronze study (Verita by Damien Hirst) done for the occasion plus some quick thumbs for a final image. Not quite sure where I want to take this but there are plenty of options! Nice topic.

At first I though we would be using referenced poses but I might conjure up a figure myself since that's allowed.

        Here's comments-

Sushy - Same Sushy from CA ? Looking very promising! Careful with going into details this early though. You might want to do a few quick perspective lines and a proportion check first so you can render comfortably. Are you planning to add some moss? You've got a great reference image.

alola - Nice unusual topic. I think you should start working on the surroundings as well, since the light from the environment will affect how the actual statue looks. Decide where the light comes from. looking forward to the final result!

@Sushy: That's a great picture to work with, I think there might be a slight issue with the size of the head, just a little bit. When taking it further, get some reference on statues with cloth in movement, maybe use some more hard brushes on some areas to make it seem more "solid" instead of more fluid, if that made any sense :P

@alola: Interesting idea, if you don't mind, I'd suggest you to double check the proportions. Working on a background will definitely help your entry pop out some more, maybe not work on a finished environment background, but on a soft gradient spotlight background, maybe.

@Anthis: The bronze study is awesome, you did a great job adding those textures, it always pays to do some homework :P can't wait to see what you'll be doing! I personally like the last thumbnail, the lightning will look very interesting on a bronze surface

        Great job everyone!

Default Imortalized - Caretaker (Old garden statue)

            Hi,
I am making an old garden statue with a tiger's character.
I tried to add a bit of concept here. The tiger is a caretaker of the garden.

Here's a WIP. Statue still needs a lot of work. This does not quite look like bronze to me...
Will try and compile my ref as well to show what I'm aiming for.

Aims - Nice! I went for some backstory as well, though I believe it's not showing yet. I love how the tiger is holding the lantern. I'm a big fan of dynamic poses, but to me #2 feels more fitting here. If you're using #1, make sure you check his left paw. Part of it is hidden behind the water and it's missing in the sketch. If you're using #2, decide whether the tiger should carry the lantern (which is what the claw indicates?) or rest its paw on top of the lantern. Just some thoughts, tell me if it's unclear

              @ Anthis -
Thanks. I am still not sure which one I will use. In #1, he is holding a walking stick in his left hand (it is not clear in the sketch, I know ), and that is plus point there. But completely side view of pose is little weak as compared to #2. In #2, tiger is holding that lantern and walking, what do you think?

In your WIP, I liked the composition. Rendering bronze is such a difficult task. And that fire is going to add killer highlights . I just feel that the camera angle could be little lower to show the height of the statue (which is not possible now I guess). But I think little more zoom on the statue will add more focus.

@ alola - I loved your concept. Just a little correction is I think you missed the ears.

@ Sushy - I liked the pose. Want to see the textures now.
