Hmm, just to name a few.

      Any fairy tale:
      - The little mermaid,
      - Pinocchio,
      - The wizard of OZ,
      - other...

      Movies:
      - The sorcerer's apprentice,
      - Kick Ass,
      - Prince of Persia,
      - Predators,
      - Any recent movie...

Just to get the thread started. There is like a million book/movies/series that could be suggested :P

I don't know if you're specifically inquiring about suggestions for the ILLUSTRATED threads, but how about a re-imagining of Santa Claus (Pere Noel, Father Christmas, etc)? Seems like he could be updated in all sorts of CRAZY ways ^_^

To follow suit with the Song of Ice and Fire, perhaps the Wheel of Time?

Things I wish to illustrate, a topic I find myself debating from time to time. The list only seems to grow as the months roll on.

            Books:
            - Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, or any book by him
            - Lord of the Flies by William Golding
            - Order 66 by Karen Traviss
            - 1984 or Animal Farm by George Orwell
            - Any Doctor Suess Book
            - Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen

            TV Shows:
            - Keeping Up Appearances
            - How I Met Your Mother
            - Seinfeld
            - Shark Week
            - Mary Shelley's Frankenhole
            - Robot Chicken
            - The Rise of Evil

            Movies:
            - Children of Men
            - Inception
            - The Bucket List
            - Suckerpunch (Coming 2011)
            - Skyline
            - Burlesque
            - The Warrior's Way (Coming December 6th, 2010)
Note: The unreleased movies could make an interesting subject since we'd only have the trailer to work off of.

One other category I would consider is music. Specific songs, with or without lyrics, can inspire an image in the mind's eye and we draw what the music makes us see. Though different people are inspired by different music, the following is specifically what I prefer but not limited to the short list.

Non-lyrical (with the exception of choirs):
            - Two Steps From Hell
            - Trailerhead
            - Immediate Music

            Lyrical:
            - Penduluum
            - Daft Punk

                Pokemon
                Hawaiian Mythology
                Music by Imogen Heap
Illustrate the genre of music of your choice!!!
                Illustrate a given poem
Classic Audrey Hepburn movies (Roman Holiday, Sabrina, etc...)

Some of these have probably been done or suggested before, but I'm kinda new so I wouldn't know...

Default A few thoughts, and seconding some earlier ideas by others

First, other people's suggestions I'd like to voice support for:

                    The Labyrinth
                    Native American Steampunk
                    Hawaiian Mythology
                    Dr. Seuss

Now, a few of my own ideas:

Neverland vs. Wonderland vs. Oz (pick any two or all three and depict them at war with each other)

Alternate Ephemera (Create a magazine, poster or other printed material from some alternate past or inventive future)

                    American Folklore
(create an original take on some early American folklore character, such as Paul Bunyan or Pecos Bill)

                    Classic Video Game Illustrated
(Depict a scene from a classic 8-bit arcade game, such as Q*bert, Robotron, etc.)

                    Michael Bay's Mother Goose
(Take a classic children's tale and create the movie poster for the summer blockbuster action movie)

I'd kill to see an Illustrated challenge of one of the following:

                        - Any of the stories found in the "Books of Blood" by Clive Barker

                        - The Exorcist

                        - Aliens Series

                        - Any of the stories found in the "Necronomicon" or, in other words, any H.P. Lovecraft story

                        - Any story from Isaac Asimov
