    Cool Artist Development

Hello everyone, my questions are rather simple depending how you look at it.
As you grow as an artist do you feel that your artwork becomes more agonizing and longer? Can an advanced artist feel like he/she is being pushed to the limit?
It seems to me like after a while the most complex painting are "a piece of cake" to the advanced. To me it feels like every new piece I make/recreate is torture but afterwards I feel like I wont be making artwork less than that, But anyway, anyone care to share some wisdom?

Well, I'm nowhere near a high level/advanced level in skill but I do see your point. When I was a kid and starting to gradually get serious about drawing, I would only take around 15 minutes for a drawing.

Over the years, I wanted to get even more serious and started getting more realistic when I drew. Now, in order for me to become satisfied with a piece, I must draw for at least one hour to over 12 hours in one sitting.

So, I see what you mean there. There's no way I can just sit down and draw something (and like it) for only 15 minutes now that I am much more advanced than where I was several years ago.

It really depends on what you're trying to do. I do gestures, so I can get down the figure faster and easier than I ever have before. In some ways, it seems easier to me because you learn more and more ways of handling things. The first time you try a figure, you have no clue how to deal with. After you learn the tools for handling the figure I think that part gets easier, but you'll find something else that you're stuck on.

Maybe you can get more improvement in the more challenging projects, but experience and skills are based on easy or small ones.
