This is my current progress, will upload the earlier stages in a moment.
I started off with multiple ideas for other fairytales but eventually settled for Beauty and the Beast, I thought about what the original message of the story was, and how superficial the characters could be perceived. Beauty didn't love the beast until he was no longer ugly. Since beast was so obsessed with roses, I figured he, too, was very superficial.
So here I depict the beast on a fashion show being worshipped and photographed by all these anonymous critics, perceiving it to be beautiful when beauty is actually the monster.

Brainstorming
Messing with the fairytales to get my ideas going. It was the balance and contrast between beauty and the beast that I further considered.
This sketch depicts beast as obsessed with his beauty and desperately decorating himself with ribbons and styling gel. There is also another sketch where beast is an insect in a suit rather than a wolfman. Exploring my options at that point.
After drawing beast with ribbons and thinking he was obsessed with beauty, I was thinking about it's parallel to today's current trend of thinking of the slim supermodel as the perfect ideal. I thought of making beast more monster-like and putting him on a fashion stand. The people are worshipping what they consider beautiful while completely ignoring that he is actually a monster. much unlike what beauty originally did in the story. She didn't love him until he stopped being an ugly monster.
Now considering putting beauty in the audience and focusing on her as well. Considering making it like a movie poster with the title "Beauty is The Beast" covering a large part of the image.
