rhazza, looks sweet man, love the lighting
anthis, hope u get done on time, a good start though, its good to challenge yourself with projects that are out of your comfort zone!
Oliverod, i love your style! I feel like I could walk right down that path!
gbbishop, really nice atmospjeric piece, I feel the sky could be just a little overwhelmingly bright and white tho, could just be my monitor tho...
Sbapstein, I liked yours from the start, a really raw feel, although I think you could do with just a little bit more colour in the forground to push the depth of field.
think I'm just about ready with this now, but cant find the finals thread, am I just bein really stupid?

There is not one yet. It is hard to work in moderator duties around your day to day life. There will probably be one today.

cheers mate, im new here so please forgive my ignorance! I guess it'll be in the new worlds page when its done? I like your renders by the way, what did you use for them, 3ds max? the trees are a nice touch but I preferred the ambience of the sunset scene.

@si man- Thanks for the comment I will see what I can do about the sky and maybe dial it back a bit. For your piece, and I know this might be late but I wanted to offer my thoughts. I like the development. I still feel it is a strong foreground subject. I like the figure thought I wonder what it would feel like if it were moved away from that dominent feature. I guess what I am having trouble with is that I don't see the "plains" I see the "tank-home-survivor" Now don't get me wrong the mood it spot on so there is that.

I'll provide some critique once the finals thread goes up!!!

gbbishop; Thanks for the great tips! Good points, and I didn't know about that saturation trick.
        si-man; quite right! Thanks.

Here's another WIP. Have yet to fix a few things but time is limited.

@ si-man: Thank you. Do you mean the really dark one I did first? I really liked that on on my high res monitor, but when I looked at it on crap monitors the cabin and ground details were lost in the darkness. I want even the people with 2004 era inexpensive laptops to enjoy my work if possible. My piece is mostly done with a program called Vue 9 Complete. I made the ruins in SketchUp and transformed them into a Wavefront file with an open source program called Meshlab. I imported the ruins to Vue and textured them using Vue materials.

Vue 9 actually will import collada files that are exported out of SketchUp, but I had wanted to mess around with that cabin in another open source program that can't import collada files; hence the Meshlab conversion.

I could animate the clouds, but the render would probably take a week on my weeny little computer. Those trees already added so many polygons that the render took an hour.

Jose will make a separate thread for the finals that will be in the New Worlds section. It will have the same thumbnail as this thread, but will be clearly marked as a Finals Thread. There will probably be a thumbnail template we are supposed to use to make a voting thumbnail.

Critique here. Don't critique in the finals thread because it disrupts the neat lineup of the entries (we turn the finals thread into the poll thread and it's easier to vote if the entries are all lined up one after the other.
