    Default Melinda's Sketchbook

I LOVE to draw people BUT unfortunately I'm pretty bad at it. (kinda embarrassed to start a sketchbook here too). Most of the time it's just guesswork & lots of unnecessary frustrations.
SOOOO, it's about time I really, REALLY put some effort to improve my drawing and by posting here might help me to be more discipline(hopefully) & interact with other artists. I'm also that there'll at least be some progress by end of this year. There's just so much to learn..

*Constructive criticism needed & will be much appreciated*

Sadly my scanner's not working so I had to take some poor quality pics for the time being.
Starting off with studies based from Andrew Loomis books ...

Hey, looks like you're on the right track. Studying from reference and observation are the keys to getting better. I'm no great artist myself, so I know how frustrating it is to keep at it when things aren't coming out the way you see them in your head. Try to get at least an hour in every day though, and I guarantee you'll see progress.

One tip I would suggest is to see if there are any life drawing groups in your area. Most decent sized towns and cities have a few. Studying from books and photos is good, but nothing beats life drawing for putting everything together.

Also, learn to draw without your tools. When you don't have time to actually draw (you're at work/school/whatever), learn to look at things around you and try to see how you would draw them. Study their proportions and relationships with their surroundings.

Keep at it and good luck.

                          Cheers!

                            Hey man, nice sketchbook.

A book that helped me understand perspective better is "Perspective made easy" by Norling.

If you want really detailed info on perspective you can also check out the link below:

@Nestoronfire: Hey, thank you!! I'll have to search for that book. And thanks for the link. I definitely need to work on my perspective. Takes a bit of time.

A little update. My brother wants me to paint him so here's how it's looking so far. Got to work on the skin color.
