Default 3D Jam Challenge #1: G.I. Joe

CGHUB 3d Jam Challenge #1: GI Joe

Name: gi_joe_smallbanner.jpg
Views: 4191
Size: 28.6 KB

By now, we have all seen pictures or trailers from the upcoming GI Joe movie. Do the new designs do justice to the classic series? Think you can do better? Show us! Your mission is to take your favorite GI Joe character, vehicle, or environment and redesign it for your version of a movie, game or action figure. If you think nothing can beat the original, give us a faithful rendition of an old school favorite.

Description
First, pick a character/vehicle/background (we have some links below to help you). Then, tell us if you are doing an homage or a re-invention. Deliverables will consist of a model of a full character or characters, a bust of a character, one or more vehicles, or a portion of an environment. Since this is a modeling challenge, textures are optional, and will not affect the judging. There are no poly budgets for this contest. Final images can be displayed as renders, Zbrush screenshots, or any other method that shows off all of your detail.

Rules & Guidelines
Creating and updating a work in progress thread is a must. This contest is about more than just winning, it is about fostering a creative community where artists can share tips and tricks and give and receive feedback along the way. To help out, the judges will be following your progress, answering your questions, and giving you feedback along the way.

Prizes & Recognition
The challenge winner will receive a very cool GI Joe figure from Sideshow Collectibles and bragging rights until the next challenge, along with a badge on their profile that shows you were a 3D Jam winner!

Deadline
Starts July 26 Ends August 23

How to Begin Your Entry
Create a WIP thread under the 3D Jams Forum with the title the title 3d Jam #1: "name of entry"
Please post a pic of the character or vehicle from the original cartoon that you modeling, and tell us what you plan on doing with it. Post as many WIP pics as you can, so you can get feedback from your fellow artists.

Now you know, and knowing is half the battle!

Hey Modelers,

Welcome to CGHUB's first 3d Jam. Danny, Rod, and myself are really excited to see what you come up with. Make sure you spread the word to your 3d artist friends that haven't yet been to CGHUB. Lets make this a successful first challenge. Good Luck!

Jeff

@Bigfoot: cool start, I love the stylization on this dude. Are you going for a full figure, or a bust? Keep going man!!!

@VonMarsch, we are hashing that out right now. We should know soon, and Rodrique, Jeff or myself will update the first post with the info and send a message out here. In the mean time, feel free to get cracking on your JOE and keep some screen captures, sketches, whatever on your end until the WIP thread issue is figured out on our end. Thanks!
