Default Creature Forge #59 - Techno-Organic Avis

Welcome to the Creature Forge, the CGHUB 2D challenge of illustrating creatures of all shapes and sizes!

Creature #59 :: Techno-Organic Avis

Deadline: Sunday, July 29th 2012 11:59pm [PST]

Challenge Overview:
A virus has spread throughout the entire alien planet and forever changed its organic horizons. None of the creatures have gone extinct, simply transformed by the techno virus into techno-organic creatures. For this round we want to focus on the creature that soars the skies miraculously as its body is no longer made up of light bone structure and muscles, but rather something "infected" by bendable metal. Has this virus improved the biology of the creature, or made it a less efficient flyer? Let your designs tell the story.

Final Delivery:
We ask that you submit one image of your creature fully illustrated with a background. The only restriction to the design is that the creature is capable of flight, before AND after the virus infection.

Good Luck and be sure to post any questions or comments in this thread.

“Please don't keep everything secret, working on your image in private only to post it at the very last hour as a surprise. The point of sharing sketches and work in progress material is so everyone can learn from each other, receive crits, compliments and improve their skills in a classroom/workshop like environment. There are no teachers and no students per say, but try to offer help to others when possible. Please be open to receiving crits, and paint-overs or mock ups of your work, as we are all here to participate, have fun, learn, grow and enjoy what each week has to offer.” --Mike Corriero

yea, its your call on how much the virus takes over the body; entirely or just bits and pieces, as long as its clear to the viewer

Hmmm....Anything that can fly is not always a bird.
So Not necessary a bird but any creature with some techno- mech thingy attached and can Fly!
Percentage of deformation is entirely upto your visual thinking and it's your call on that.
          Hope this answers your question

Ill probably try to make a bug/bat creature, see how that works out.
EDIT: Does the creature have to be in-flight? or can we display the monster on the ground?

to clear up a few thoughts, the creature doesn't have to resemble a bird, it can be a ladybug type thing, or better yet, something completely original and out of the ordinary like a blimp.

now dont go overboard with the whole virus idea; ie, slapping on robotic helicopter propellers on a creature that did not have that in it's original form...

also, the creature doesnt have to be drawn mid flight, but it would help illustrate the point. air or ground, your call

                  Such a cool topic Ogi!
Couldn't help but fiddle around with the idea of a blue whale in the air (As i read in the discussion it didnīt have to be something original from the skies right?)
Don't know if this is the way I'm going yet, but heres a few sketches.
Looking at it now, I think the "wings" should be a lot larger compared to the body of the whale, probably gonna fix that before the next update

I go on with my work, a flying fish. At first I tried to expression my fish was under attack, so he had a scar on his shoulder. But I found that it's easy to make people feel like this is a rob-fish, not a fish infect some virus.

Man, everyone's concepts are amazing! I love how graceful the sea-to-sky creatures are. I may have chosen to do something... a tad more unusual. I hope this doesn't qualify as going overboard... heh. I have never drawn hippos before, but they have pretty awesome dinosaur feet. I was just playing around tonight - some quick hippo sketches.

I like the idea of something so large and cumbersome allowed to take flight. I am still considering the mechanized portion, and the type of flying apparatus. But... hippo sketches!
