Default CharacterFORGE 3D RULES & DISCUSSION

RULES AND GUIDELINES:

1 :: Round deadlines are typically 3 weeks. Voting is typically 2 weeks.

2 :: Layout/Size: Keep all submissions to 1000-1200 pixels in height or width. It's okay if its slightly larger or smaller than that, just don't go too crazy.

3 :: Submissions: Post Final Images in Finals Thread. Be sure to use the voting thumb (available in the Finals Thread).

4 :: One Entry Only.

5 :: Most of your character must be shown in the render. No portraits.

6 :: Any Software or combination of software can be used.

7 :: All entries must be lit and rendered. Backgrounds, ships and weapons are all optional. You can also texture your modes [optional].

8 :: No poly count or texture size limits.

9 :: Focus on personality. What sets your character apart from others? Pay attention to anatomy, costume, shape, form, and lighting. USE REFERENCE. Don't fret if answers don't always come too quickly. Remember, critical thinking is key to great character design.

10 :: Post work in progress images as you go.

11 :: All designs must be original and your own work unless the subject/theme dictates otherwise. (No reboots of exististing designs unless that's the challenge).

12 :: Designs must be created for the current challenge. No submitting of old work.

Have questions? Don't understand why something is the way it is? post your concerns and feedback here!

Default I'm Brand new to Challenges here

Hello! I'm Brand new here on CGHub, I've used this site to look at other artists' work before, but I have just started to feel confident enough to try out challenges. Where would I find the rules for each round of challenges? I have found the results and the basic outlines for the, but not the actual rules per round. Thank you!

    Hi Tim,

    Welcome!

Each round (and all of the challenges, really) use the same basic rules (outlined above). If there are round specific requirements, they're outlined in the first post of the thread.

I'm not sure if you're a 3D artist, or 2D, but this is the 3D challenge section. The current round can be found here:
http://cghub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10922 and specific notes are in the first post.

Hope that answers your question. If not, please feel free to PM me.

    Best,
    ~Shane

      Default Original

What about adding, ' All designs must be original and your own work unless the subject/theme dictates otherwise'.

I think having this rule would really help challenge people's creativity and allow them to design something new, fresh and completely their own.
Also it would be more accurate in regards to being a designer for production.
For example having the theme ' Tribal alien warrior'
The easy route would be to go with a Predator or even Avatar design but in real life you would have to come up with something new and interesting.
I think that's what these contest need to do, make people think outside the box and out of their comfort zone.

      Cheers
      AJ

      AJ,

Thanks for the suggestion. That's actually a very good one, and honestly I'm a little embarrassed I never put that in. I always tend to think that it's a "no brainer."

      Will ad that right now!

      Thanks again,
      ~S
