Hey guys!
I feel really out of my element posting here after looking at everyone's awesome portfolios. This is my first post on this site, but I had to jump at this thread. I'm very serious about improving my anatomy as I am just a noob, and would love to join you guys if you don't mind, as I've been looking for a thread like this for a while now. I'm actually in the middle of an anatomy model study and would love a critique. Would it be ok to work on that in this thread? If not I'm willing to start from scratch to get in on this. Thanks! ![]() |

I have to be honest and say that I was hoping to turn this into a more advanced master study anatomy topic, but of course people at all levels can still learn something. If you want to post work you've already started it's not a problem.

Well, here's mine. Obviously I didn't start from scratch again, I reworked my existing 'character' sculpt into a more realistic figure sculpt, with a lot more attention to subtlety.
It should go without saying that anatomy crits are welcome. Last edited by silk; 06-25-2012 at 12:03 AM. |

I noticed that as well, but I was unsure if that could be considered a real error. If you look at anatomy books that's more or less what should happen under the skin, but it's true that due to the biceps femoris there should be a bulge resulting in a more curved line. I find more odd that we can see the iliotibial band so clearly in such a relaxed pose though.
Anyway I think that this is mainly due to the fact that the base was the more cartoony version done for anatomical purposes (let's call it version 1.0), so it shouldn't come at a surprise that this version brings some of its issues. Maybe I would've expected his back to be wider on the level of the shoulders, but I think it's just a matter of personal tastes. As I already said on silk's gallery I don't see any noticeable anatomical error. I sculpted a model as well, done in sculptris in this asymmetrical pose from the beginning (well, to decide the pose I used a stickman model I did a couple of years ago); I wanted to have a pose where the two halves were different enough so that I could think in terms of movement and relaxation. I chose a skinnier build so that I could see more clearly muscles & bones having clear landmarks, and I made the muscles purposedly more evident because after all this was an anatomy study. In the end there are still various issues, some are due to the bizarre pose (I thought it as a warrior parrying with his sword, oddly enough he seems more like a pitcher. Oh, well...), some to proportion errors (so much for having landmarks) and areas I had to rework more than once due to my lack of knowledge (but I think I'm getting there eventually). I also added a turntable video on vimeo: https://vimeo.com/44733677 On a side note, recently Qisheng Luo posted some nude models in his gallery and on zbrushcentral as well, very good stuff. I hope if you can't join you can at least add serious critique.
