Hey guys. I also decided to give it a shot. I began with grabbing some refs from flickr (can't show them here cause I'm sure it would be illegal), and made a ruff sketch of what it would look like. I've added some crystals floating in the mid-air so it feels like we surrounded by them. Next step is figuring the color palette.

Tip for everyone, remember to flip your canvas to see that the image reads properly, if it looks all wrong you know that somthing is not correct.

Still a lot of work has to be done, but I'm moving fast. Figured out the background, changed the direction of the space shuttle to serve the comp and stuff.

Here is another WIP, the ship in the left corner is still giving me issues, but overall I am happy so far. Just need to push flat color more so i can get into the fun shading and what not.
Any CC is much appreciated.

Artist: I am liking yours a lot, flipping the plane around like that seemed to help a ton.

Patrick: Your second one looks cool, your first one was great as well. The composition is a little clearer in the second one.
