Default Full body figure sculpt challenge (3d)

We 3d guys don't seem to have an anatomy sub-section of our own, so I'll start it here.
The challenge is to sculpt a full human figure, paying full attention to every part of the body, because every part is going to be scrutinised. It means you have to force yourself to relearn what you think know already know by going back to reference for everything, and it will improve your overall knowledge one notch further.
It's not a contest as such, the goal here is for everyone involved to improve their anatomy and sculpting of the human figure, and hopefully we'll end up with a goldmine of a thread for advanced anatomy sculpting. It's just a specialised critique thread.
There are no rules, apart from it being a realistic human. Any age/sex/body type, and no poses that obscure too much body area.
If no one else takes part, I just use it as my own anatomy thread I hope if you can't join you can at least add serious critique.

Sounds fun. I also hope to see many artists to participate in order to make this thread the 'goldmine' you would like it to become.

I will try for sure, I really need to do a lot of practice, I'm still lacking on many areas of the male structure and even more on the female one.

Just to be clear, realistic human means that the model shouldn't have meaninglessly flexed muscles due to the chosen pose, or it should be considered as an anatomical study like the one you did, so all the muscles depressions should be evident anyway?

Well, I'm trying not to impose any rules, because I know artists hate rules.
It's really about your knowledge of anatomy, rather than making it look the most 'beautiful'.
The problem is that aesthetics come down to personal ideas about what looks nice, so you can argue forever about that and get nowhere.
So comments like 'the hands look too big, or too small' are not really relevant here. Some humans have big hands, some small hands. Neither is right or wrong.
I want to try and keep it to technical anatomy issues. As long as your anatomy is all technically correct, you can use whatever proportions or muscle tension you personally like.

I want this thread to be a communist masterclass. Not taught by a dictator, but combining everyone's areas of expertise about different ares of the body so that everyone learns something.

Hey Silk . I saw your sculpture and your comment for a 3D artist about how we should learn anatomy . I am agree with your point .I was a student for learning sculpture in an fine art academy . I know some basic things about sculpture .A lots of 3D beginner who learning anatomy is making wrong way. It is very great and nessorary to have this challenge .You are very thoughtful . And I am sure this challenge will very helpful for anyone who want to learn anatomy correctly .And I am sure I can relearn lots of things too. Sorry for my poor English .

            Hey guys!

I feel really out of my element posting here after looking at everyone's awesome portfolios. This is my first post on this site, but I had to jump at this thread. I'm very serious about improving my anatomy as I am just a noob, and would love to join you guys if you don't mind, as I've been looking for a thread like this for a while now. I'm actually in the middle of an anatomy model study and would love a critique. Would it be ok to work on that in this thread? If not I'm willing to start from scratch to get in on this.

            Thanks!

I have to be honest and say that I was hoping to turn this into a more advanced master study anatomy topic, but of course people at all levels can still learn something. If you want to post work you've already started it's not a problem.

Well, here's mine. Obviously I didn't start from scratch again, I reworked my existing 'character' sculpt into a more realistic figure sculpt, with a lot more attention to subtlety.
It should go without saying that anatomy crits are welcome.

I noticed that as well, but I was unsure if that could be considered a real error. If you look at anatomy books that's more or less what should happen under the skin, but it's true that due to the biceps femoris there should be a bulge resulting in a more curved line. I find more odd that we can see the iliotibial band so clearly in such a relaxed pose though.
Anyway I think that this is mainly due to the fact that the base was the more cartoony version done for anatomical purposes (let's call it version 1.0), so it shouldn't come at a surprise that this version brings some of its issues.
Maybe I would've expected his back to be wider on the level of the shoulders, but I think it's just a matter of personal tastes. As I already said on silk's gallery I don't see any noticeable anatomical error.

I sculpted a model as well, done in sculptris in this asymmetrical pose from the beginning (well, to decide the pose I used a stickman model I did a couple of years ago); I wanted to have a pose where the two halves were different enough so that I could think in terms of movement and relaxation. I chose a skinnier build so that I could see more clearly muscles & bones having clear landmarks, and I made the muscles purposedly more evident because after all this was an anatomy study.
In the end there are still various issues, some are due to the bizarre pose (I thought it as a warrior parrying with his sword, oddly enough he seems more like a pitcher. Oh, well...), some to proportion errors (so much for having landmarks) and areas I had to rework more than once due to my lack of knowledge (but I think I'm getting there eventually).

I also added a turntable video on vimeo:
                  https://vimeo.com/44733677

On a side note, recently Qisheng Luo posted some nude models in his gallery and on zbrushcentral as well, very good stuff.
