Default 3D Production Challenge 2012 - SAMRATEK WIP

Johndois thanks sooo much for the reminder! Didn't have any time to really work on it this week. Dabbled a bit on the tail but made the mistake of creating a vertebrae tail rather than the "bone cage" that appears to be what the tail in the drawing is made of. Put that aside for the moment and started to rework the horns instead...

That's what a clean topology should look like
    Keep it up mate!

Woke up early to work on the sword, got lost in the details and decided to work on the thrall/girl/sorceress instead. Still troubleshooting the feet, breasts and hands. The body is pretty much done...

      Hey..
I have marked some problem area's...

1- Edge loop is not right
2-Use the edge flow in an optimum way
3-Too many edges flowing in the same way

Edge loops are called loops because it should be in loops..
      Hope this helps

Zentrope and Lavarg, my thanks to you both. I think I know how I wound up making the non-loops and why it's causing me a such a headache with the rest of the body. I'll give it another shot...

I'm salvaging the face that I already built by removing vertices and rebuilding faces. The trouble is (so far) that I'm creating triangles in the process, which of course stop any loops from being formed. The curvature of the nose has been especially challenging. So much to do...

Use the Reference provided by Lavarg and try to mimic the edge Flow.
Triangles are forming at all wrong places...
            So try it out...

Thanks again Zentrope and Lavarg but so far the topology of the human face is eluding me. Once I get around the mouth and nose, I wind up with triangles. Then I backtrack, remove them, start over and... wind up with triangles.
So it's been a frustrating week. I've blocked out the sword and started creating hands for the witch. The feet and breasts are still causing me some concern (more triangles!)...

OK! I started over (again!) on the Witch and was able to finally create the face, head and body without... triangles! Hurrah! Minor victory for me.

                And congratulations for the same!
                Much better topology this time

                  The story so far...
Firstly, a much belated thank you to Zentrope for your continued guidance and critique of my work.

I've been unsatisfied as to how my creature looks as compared with Adrian Smith's design; so, once again, I watched some more tutorials on Vimeo and Youtube and came up with another version that so far I can say that I am much more comfortable with.

I had no idea how challenging it would be to create and attach the hands and feet!

The wings are now my next hurdle. Not sure if I'll have the time but I'd like to redo the Witch as well...

Continued efforts on sculpting the monster head, re-making the witch (again!) and began forming the grieves. I can definitely say that this contest has helped me find out what I don't know about organic modeling.

Contest may have ended but I am still continuing to work on this... Still trying to reconcile as to why the faces (for monster and witch) continue to look so vastly different from the drawing at each iteration...

The variations on a theme continues... The top mesh models seem to have the correct topography but when I continued further it began to look more and more like a humanoid leopard seal. The bottom model head is the latest version (as of this evening) which looks a little more on track (at least to me...)
