Default What to focus on

Hiya everyone!

Recently I kinda came back to the idea of doing game and concept art again. But I actually don't know where to start, so I asked someone on DeviantArt for advice and she said to first determine what kind of games I wanted to make art for.

I hope you peeps can help me getting some kind of focus, because I still need to start creating a game-art-portfolio.

Now, here's the hard thing I guess...I'm the kind of person that loves colourful and sometimes cute-ish games that have a slightly cartoonish feel to it. But I wonder if there are concept-artists needed for those kind of games, are there?

I also like colourful rpg's like Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, or Luminous Arc for example, but I have the feeling that companies that create those kind of games only exist in Japan :P is that true?.

Next to that, I'm still in search of what I want to do, what kind of job. Character design (in cartoony, cute style) is something I'd like to do and I also like to paint (fantasy) environments, but because someone now said I had to focus on something...to do these both would that be too much?

Any help is welcome .

concept artists are needed for every game. In my opinion focus on what ever you feel most comfortable working with. If cute is your thing then I say go for it.

Just remember that we have to be proactive to survive in the industry. We don't have to stick with the normal routine and have to change according to the requirements.
He who is clear in his mind has half won the battle..So don't think that you cannot do it rather think it's easy to do it..
But enjoy what you are doing...

    Thanks to you both,
I've had several people saying last week that I should just do what I like and that I should try to be myself. Maybe I should.

It's rather hard when you try to achieve something and people around the industry just say you should do 'this, this, this and this'...I'm the kind of girl that likes to read a lot about the industry and how to success and all. But I should be myself, some things might work, others won't.
    So, thanks!
