During my disappearance I've been reacquainting myself with pencils. Soft delicious prismacolors and 4B regular graphites. Detoxing myself of the digital stuff. And exploring my love for liveliness, personality and emotion.

Heads upon heads upon heads! GLORIOUS HEAAADSSS!

Mini-post! I know I do a TON of heads. It's temporary. Just greasing the groove. An entire sketchbook of heads would be ridiculous.... or WOULD IT?

It's a pretty shitty photo. Blame the phone, and my skills.
I'm loving the watercolors though! Feels fresh.

More watercolor head doodles! Got a bit more comfortable with the medium. This marks the last batch of my head madness for now. Full characters next! Thanks for the encouragement guys.

I wanted to try out some children/fable-friendly subjects. I kinda like the tortoise with the larger head and the bunny was interesting to me. Threw a quick color pass on the heavier tortoise just to get an idea. I was shooting for a nice middle-ground, less cartoony but not so realistic that it hits that uncanny valley where things become awkward and creepy, it's probably just on the edge of that- like a lot of Jim Henson's work, who I admire a lot. I appreciate the comments guys, thanks.

I was going for a plant-ish theme and then ended up with a squid-type in the corner, woo.

I've been thinking about this recently and I posted this on my blog, but I wanted to share this here too:

I like creatures and characters... Most importantly, I love everything in between.

However I've felt a little guilty recently about that. But I've realised, why should I? Many of my own mentors and heroes are specialists if not enthusiasts. They wouldn't have done any of the great work they have, if they hadn't embraced their interests.

If love the area as much as I think I do, then I better well try to do it justice and do it well. Time to stop fighting my nature.

I draw critters and I love it.

You've a great imagination for creating creatures, they all have their own personalities and really original shapes. I'm looking forward to seeing them develop.

The turtle one is my favorite of the ones you have posted, it looks like one of those fairytale critters.
Your linework is very nice and fluid. I specialy like your digital linework
Hope to see more from you!
