    Default Shauna's Sketchbook

A sketchbook looked like a good idea! I'm still pretty new to the site (so HI!) but I figured having a place to post all my learning would get me to arting it up more and more!

All of this is pretty rough! Just chugging along. I got the rar files from the crimson daggers thread. A lot of amazing pictures all together so I don't have to get distracted hunting for reference images! I just get to dive right in! ^_^

My apologies if these are obnoxiously large. >< I tried to make them smaller. I'm still working on the girl and the screw but I think I'm probably done with the bird.

I'm looking forward to going back to the girl's portrait!

Thanks for looking. More to come!

More for the screw/bolt/thing. Glad I added a bit more to this and hopefully I'll try my hand at actually coloring it later.

Yay! Gonna work more on his hair later. I've been adding color to the lady portrait above but not sure if it's coming along in a way I'd like. Oh well! More practice!

1 hour...might spend some more time with this but I enjoyed how gritty it turned out.

Used photo reference for all of these.

I tried to resize the images to better fit in the forum. Sorry if they're too big? I can make 'em smaller if preferred.

Some quick photoshop sketches. Gonna be uploading a few old things and hopefully keep uploading newer and newer stuff.

Nice start on your sketchbook! I've never been able to join the crimson daggers :S but you seem to be taking quite the advantage from it!
Those last sketches are pretty sweet, let's see some more!

@ kevin- : Thank you! I've really been enjoying doing all the studies. I was told once by some artists to NEVER have black in your painting which forced me to work a lot more on lighter values but now I'm trying to bring black back in, haha. So I guess I got something out of it no matter the viewpoint. I will try to keep an eye to those edges.

@ Amaakir : I'm glad you like 'em. I believe crimson daggers actually has the goal of painting/drawing every day so I don't think I have quite held to that sadly. But I definitely try. It's a lot of fun. I find I really enjoy being able to tear through a bunch of form/costume/pose/etc. studies because there's so much freedom in it. I don't have to be afraid of making mistakes and it's purely to learn. I love that.

Sorry for such wordy responses! Here's some more stuff.

Keep it up. Maybe try to limit your brushstrokes a bit and work on forms and values? It will make your work much more readable

@Engelszorn : Thanks! I'm definitely trying to work towards my paintings being a little more readable.

Here's the process of a portrait I did the other day...rather quickly (2 hours).

i would suggest more contrast in the last one, looks a bit flat. cool update though!
