    Default Michael Doig Sketchbook

    Greetings.

I'm really digging the norse thing right now, especially after viewing Beowulf and Grendel, so here's a study from that film to kick us off!

@ malo - thanks malo - i've been browsing through your sketchbook, I've gotten to page 20 so far :3 Lovely environments, I like the inclusion of a similar character in each to both show scale, and as if he's exploring those worlds with you. I will have to return to the medusa piece asap.

Some digital linework this time around - trying to improve my fluency and find some consistency with line weighting.

i see that you are good with digital : D work more on your figure poses! study simple shapes before you do the hardcore ones! it helps! trust me! Draw like.. stupid figure poses.. and draw heads all the time when you have time... dunno what to say... i ve noticed that... most peeps gets comfy at a point and they don t draw : P and then.. poof something bad happens and things doesn t add up.. because it s something they didnt study : D btw.. NOT talkin about you! just saying that it happend to me... last year... when i was like..."heh i can do this! " then i ve noticed that i lack skills.. in that.. and in that.. and omg wait! i need to learn more

It s like this... "draw or die"

Love your sketchbook and i ll keep an eye @_@ on ya! well 2! haha

Thank you Doru - you inspired me to return to Loomis' mannequin studies and build up my understanding of full figure gesture again. I've pencilled them on paper and will post them soon!

For now, a couple of things just to keep the sketchbook from stalling out on me. There's more than this, honest!

Rough character design I worked on for Proper Games

Does this rock seem too dark, its very dark on my monitor at work... I fear calibration is required.

I really like your pencils from imagination. Has a nice looseness to it. Keep pushing those digitals!

GREAT update! Love the rock take. And it's not to dark - at least on my screen

I quite miss being a student - even though one never stops learning. Its a pain that most of the work I do these days is kept under lock and NDA. Gotta make time for self studies and what not.

Thanks for looking, my approach to work now is to sift through my older works and see if they can be used as bases for current works. Shake the dust off them, too many half starts, and not enough finished examples D:

This is a work in progress - this is my endeavour to create an illustration with some narrative elements in it. She will eventually have a nose. I'm still trying to fathom out my process, and pipeline for creating images....

Any suggestions for what setting/background to place these two in are welcome :3
