I love everyone's progress so far.

@ Stace - Love the praying mantis idea, and really great thumbnails you have come up with so far. My only critique is to be careful and try to not make it look like a costume a human would wear, because that is how it is coming off to me.

@ Amaakir - Ha ha, exactly I was going for. I figure if a human and animal were spliced together it wouldn't be the prettiest thing around.

Anyways, here are more progress shots of my Chimera. Luckily the scales haven't killed me yet, but they are getting close to it. :X

@TwoDD: Sweeeeeeeeeet, that is looking extremely awesome! The render of the scales is just beautiful, and you can definitely feel the weight of the creature from how it slithers around, excellent job! Keep working hard on those scales, it'll pay off, I'm sure! I also have to remind you to do a skeleton and muscle study, they don't have to be rendered but are necessary for the final entry, I just hope you haven't forgotten! :P

Here's my next WIP on the Shark Chimera:

@ Ammakir - Yeah thank you so much for the compliment and the reminder. Just another tedious piece of work I need to get done. D:

Anyways, I have more progress on my guy. I had to let it sit around for a few days so I get a fresh look at it again. I came back at it again today and really like the adjustments I made (the last two). I am not too sure about the color, but I think I like it as well. All crits on it are welcomed and wanted.

Anyone got a good place to look up bird anatomy, I cannot find muscles for the front side/under side of the wing, I can find some for the backside. In fact there is very little usable bird anatomy that I can find other than bones. Worse case I will have to skip doing the muscles for the bird wing study and take a guess when on the human arm and bird wing mix.

@MarcSampson: Awesome start, man! We recently had a bird study challenge, you should definitely go take a peek at the finals, the entries have gorgeous feather renders I think you could apply to your entry. Also, remember that a Skeleton and muscle study of the creature are necessary to be able to participate! They don't have to be rendered, but we do have to see the whole skeleton and muscle system

@SevnthFloorArt: Hey, man, I'm glad you could take another punch at the challenge! Awesome skeleton study, THATS exactly what we needed to see! You did your homework, everything is very well assembled and it looks great! Also, please do a quick muscle study as I am asking this from everyone. I'll be giving some extra days so don't worry about time and don't worry about rendering it, just keep it simple but do take a dive into a muscle study, remember: The goal doesn’t dwell on the applause-- it focuses on the skill and learning!

Keep it up, guys! As ussual, I'll be out of town this weekend, however I'll be on as much as possible to continue giving you all some feedback. This last couple of weeks have been busy, so I haven't been very active, but I'm free from giving conferences now! So I'm all yours! Let's see some more painting, people!
          Keep it up!

looks like I might not be able to finish. The commissions stacked up on me so I have been to busy to work on it.

Hey everyone, I have the muscle and skeleton reference roughly done, I just wanted to detail and clean it up a lot more but I probably won't have the time to do so before tomorrow.

Let me know what you all think, all critiques are welcome.

Wow everyone's stuff looks great. Kinda makes me realize I should probably have done at least a sketch for my final render and placed the skeleton and muscle study though. Oh well the render is all I have to do, and I'm sure I'll find a way to show all of them. This is an update with the muscle study which I TOTALLY remembered before Amaakir reminded me haha.

Hey guys! The finals thread iiiiiis up!
                http://cghub.com/forum/showthread.ph...360#post115360

I gave some extra time for those that want to polish their entries some more and for those that still haven't finished and want a chance to have their entry showcased as the main protagonist in the new anatomicae banner.
However, you can go ahead and start posting as you finish, further entries will be closed on Friday and the voting poll will be up that same day.
Some great updates from everybody, let's keep pushing forward! We've got some extra time, so let's make the best of it!

I am so glad there is a time extension, thanks a lot Amaakir. With that I took the time I had to rendered out my chimera's anatomy further. I am defiantly a lot happier with it now than I was before.
