one too many animals in that example lol

Anyone got a good place to look up bird anatomy, I cannot find muscles for the front side/under side of the wing, I can find some for the backside. In fact there is very little usable bird anatomy that I can find other than bones. Worse case I will have to skip doing the muscles for the bird wing study and take a guess when on the human arm and bird wing mix.

@irawan: The first one was ok, just loose the lizard tale :P You can keep the centaur form with deer horns and the wings. It's a cool concept in my opinion

@Luneder: We just had a bird anatomy challenge, and irawan made a great entry with muscles and all, you could use that as reference

      A second skeleton study.
This time drawn in pencil, I feel more comfortable with it.
      Hope it's better!

Time to share with everyone some of my ideas. I decided to do a snake/human hybrid. Here are some sketches from Photoshop, Alchemy, and my sketchbook trying to decide what type of snake I want to narrow it down to.

I typically start with the head for inspiration and work the body from that, because, to me, the head is the most important and it draws the most attention.

For some reason I am really want to use the hog nose snake as my animal. It's just so damn cute and awesome at the same time.

Here is my wing and arm studies. I am keeping them all in the same color theory that way come the end design I can put them all in the same image for the beauty shot.

          Default Cloud Hound

So here's a rough of my take. A cloudhound; Part humanoid with features of a wolf and bird of prey. Gonna look at my reference more closely to construct a skeleton and some musculature. Let me know what you think. (Oh and sorry for the weird format.)

More progress on my chimera, so far I have the lines. Next it's value and then rendering it.

Hopefully all those scales won't kill me before I am done. :X

@Luneder: Awesome, man, can't really add anything else but to encourage you to keep going! It'll definitely be interesting to see your rendered image, I can allready kind of picture it

@SevnthFloorArt: Nice sketch, You should save that pose for your rendered image, as making the skeleton and muscle study on that pose might result being a bit complicated :P Also, if you could show us more of your chimera's torso on the final, that would be great

@TwoDD: Nice! That Chimera is looking reeeeeeeeeaaally creepy ahahaha but you're doing a great job! It'll be interesting seeing the whole skeleton and muscle study on it!

Thanks Amaakir. I was actually just doing the sketch as a way to get my idea down. I'll probably do something a little clearer like a t pose maybe front and side for the anatomy. I also have a final in mind that should showcase the torso a bit more. I'm out of school so for now I got nothin but time .

Everyone's looking really great so far! I'm loving the variety of animals in here.

Finally sat down and doodled out some ideas for my chimera. I decided on an orchid mantis, they're always so interesting to look at. It'll be a challenge to draw the skeletal system and the muscles, but ahh... definitely looking forward to learning something new.

@Stace: Awesome, I was really hoping someone would explore the insect-human combination You've got some great sketches allready, I really like the lower left one for the body and the sketch for the head on the lower right of the second page. It'll be quite a challenge indeed, but it'll be a great experience and it'll look great!
Quick edit: I recently read a story from Isaac Asimov, where these bug-aliens would capture a ship with humans. The aliens had a really tiny head and big mantis like eyes. The head only served as a sensory organ, since the brain was actually located in the abdomen of the alien. Just a thought, if you'd like to explore some really crazy ideas

So yeah, I went with shark-human and...uhm...Sharks are...weird XD I never thought their skull would be so complicated! Apparently the jaw bone is kinda independent from the rest of the skull, something like that, it's really weird haha but here are some sketches, nothing really rendered cuz I had to finish some exams and email them before Friday and decided to finish them all today.
I'll start rendering the skeleton from the beauty shot sketch on the right and start fleshing it out from there.
                Any C&C's are welcome!
