Default "3D" Production Challenge 2012: - Doppelganger

I kept peeking in from time to time and saw some really amazing work done by you guys. so I had to make some time for this, even if just for my self. I'm pretty sure i'm too late to enter and finish, so i'm going to do what I can until time runs out or I get overloaded at work.
About the skull I usually start with a cube or sphere then I just suggest the form, then i rebuild it and push forward to detail.

I blocked out the forms with simple shapes, ill use them as a guide and replace each piece as I go, then I started on the snake. Normally I would do the big things first, but I tend to dwell on Mr. Grin so I thought I would get some other stuff out of the way first.

bout the snake. Its a simple method I just modeled a basic form in maya, then did the uv's so I could save the scale alpha as a color map if I wanted. Then to zbrush where i modified a sphere to look like scales and then grabdoc gave me an alpha that i used to paint the scales. The head was done with the basic clay and standard brushes

Thanks zentrope. I will try and bring it.
I wanted to start posting less as I kept bumping my thread to the top.
so here is the witch and Mr. Grin. the mesh is the same. once I was done with the witch I just sculpted Grin, as I new I would be bashing In certain things like his second set of arms. The wings are just placeholder plains that I quickly sculpted. I'm having trouble understanding the wing structure though as there are no folds vertically just horizontal which indicates that the wings have no slack to extend. Well ill figure it out.

Here's a little update for the model. I now have everything built.
I would have had it at the stage of polish but, somewhere I managed to bugger my pose files and now have to redo them. you can see the mess in the pic. on another note did anyone else start to cry half way through doing all the skull and bones?

I agree with u. There are lots of elements to work on this beautiful piece of art by adrian.I think everyone in this competition must have lots of subtools to handle.
So consolidating subtools and detailing the necessary things and not subdividing everything seems to be the key
Best of luck. looking for ur updates

I know i cried my self to sleep more than once, I'm almost done with all the bones and yeah like nandlaskar said, I'm not subdividing everything and I'm budgeting my time to add detail to the overall image not focusing on just one area.

Keep it up, best of luck

Thanks guys for the advice I was worried for a few weeks that I may have to leave certain things unfinnshed for the sake of memory. and I am glad I'm not the only one with tears.... sniffle.
So here is the ren where its at. for the life of me I cant figure out why when I work in my pose files its all good to go but when
I send it back to the render file it balloons or weakens my details.
You can see in the pick below what I mean. it sucks because I've had this thing ready for a few days but when I try bringing it together.. well this. so now Im trying to rework the bad areas right in the render file but its 3 gigs and takes an eternity to rotate or change tools lol. now im going to go find a tiny violin and get someone to play it well i complain lol

I figured out what the problem was with my pose files, if I scale either my pose files or my original subtools then it messes with the detail.
I did what I could in a mad haste but its a long way from final. I had fun though and I learned a valuable lesson in the process so it was worth it.

I was just informed by my friend that my tail is wrong on the back render. I gasped at the glaring boo boo there. I cant believe I didn't notice that when rendering and its past the deadline so Ill be fixing that along with allot of other little things I keep noticing. for my post in my personal area.
but on another note I want to thank those that gave advice and encouragement along the way. I hope there are more of these in the future.
        Thanks again.

..........Man I cant believe I never saw that lol
