    Default Sketchbook: Alex Zelenski

Hey guys - heres my sketchbook - I want to start transitioning to becoming a concept artist - so I want it all, crits, comments, thoughts, paintovers. I want to become a better artist. =D

The traditional work below are class room assignments and the digital work is recent(ish) personal work. critiques are great but anything helps Thank you so much in advance

I like your perspective study and the traditional stuff.
Though you need some more work with the Digital medium but i guess it's your age(too young) and with experience you will learn and evolve.

        Good concepts.
But I think your lines are a little curt, just need more practices.

There are things you must understand...

        The four looks of life-
1- Look back and get EXPERIENCE
        2-Look forward and see HOPE
        3-Look around and see REALITY
        4-Look within and feel CONFIDENT

Some things are experienced and you understand those things when you encounter them.
It's not about age but how much you can learn with experience.

And for Digital stuff just check some free online Channels like

        Hope this will help you

Your 3D stuff is looking good. I don't do 3d modelling a lot so I can't really offer much of a critique sadly.

Your perspective is very nice so far (that castle drawing) and the still life with coke glass is pretty dang good. For that one specifically I'd suggest adding more depth and shadows such as where the buttons would descend down into the remote. I'm working on improving on lighting myself but that's what sketchbooks are for! :]

The best help for me has been Matt Kohr's website ctrlPaint. It's the most concise bunch of tutorials I've ever found. (They're mainly free though he does have a few in his store for $10 which...really isn't that bad considering ALL the stuff he has) He covers basic digital painting, concepts of design like focal points, balance, etc. etc. etc! Okay, commercial over. :] I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

I look forward to seeing more of your work.
