Challengers! Hereth lie the rules for this rounds challenge! Read on...

"A Madman's Ramblings (Introduction)"

As an aspiring artist for the digital entertainment medium I've constantly found myself daydreaming of the perfect job.
Creating unique art for video games or movies alike. You know, characters, awesome looking weapons and armor, maybe even landscapes (I suck at environments and such)! But what is truly expected from a good digital artist nowadays...?
Characters, weapons and environments, that's for sure, but let's go a bit deeper now...Ever wondered who came up with the design for that door your videogame avatar just opened to finally have that epic encounter against the last boss? Have you ever been left in awe before, while you stand upon that huge, lurking and locked up door, knowing that behind it lies the climax, that final battle game designers have worked so hard to bring you to?
This challenge is a tribute to those great artists that made you shiver, just to think of what lies behind that door.
So get ready, because we are about to unlock the Door to Oblivion...

Objectives
Challengers will be tasked to design and create unique concept art for a door. Not just any door, but the door to the last boss of a videogame.
We will study the importance of color, textures and how they can team up to create powerful storytelling in a simple object such as a door.

Rules and Requirements
- Challengers are required to show their WIP. These challenges are an opportunity for all of us to make contact with other artists and be a part of a growing community and it would be unfair for the artists who are making an effort to share their work and ideas if you are allowed to enter the finals without participating in the WIP thread.
- Challengers are open to design a door that would fit any genre. It can be part of a horror videogame, warfare, medieval fantasy, sci-fi...But it must not belong to any existing videogame! (for example, you can't do doors based on WoW's lore, etc.)
- Challengers are free to paint more than just the door (For example, you can add some more mood by painting the wall) but the final image must keep the door as main focus.

Some Tips to get you on your way...
- When thinking on your design, establish what genre you'll be tackling. Do some research, pay special attention to textures and colors. How do they work together to make the door fit the genre of the game?
- What does your door tell about the last boss? What elements will you use to tell us your story?
- Here are a couple of reference images of different types of doors:

Hey Amaakir I really REALLY LOVE this challenge! I came up with the idea of what I'll do just before finish reading the first half of the briefing.
I didn't reach for the finals thread of the last challenge, but I'll be in this one too!
Also I totally agree with you on the WIP thread's requirement! You encourage the best parts of participating on this challenges man! Thank you for that!

Hey, guys, I'm sorry to hear this from all of you.
I wanted to try something a bit more related to art basics such as handling textures and basic storytelling in objects.
My intention was to handle the challenges in a certain order, starting with human anatomy, art basics, animal anatomy, fantasy anatomy and back to human and so on...
I'm sorry this is not as attractive as I thought it would be, I'll make sure we get back on the right tracks after this challenge
Also, please make sure to visit the following link:

Feel free to suggest your ideas and thoughts, as some of you may have allready noticed, I tend to be online as much as possible, so I'll make sure to read your suggestions and be sure I take your opinions very seriously, so you wont be overlooked. Thnxs again, guys

So here I am checking the challenge's entries and... nothing??
I was surprised by the lack of enthusiasm of almost everyone. Any way, I still don't have enough time and I still don't work much on my illustration, but here's a very rough very early sketch of my idea... I'll be making many changes to this one in terms of almost everything, but the concept won't change that much, that's almost finished.
No offense intended, but I hope this sketch helps getting some creativity and less whining to the thread.

@Amaakir: Keep up the spirits and the good work man!

@Virev: Hey man, great to see you on this!
I like the concept of your door, how about going a bit more extreme and add a lot more bodies to it? I imagine they would be embedded as part of the design of the door or am I wrong?
When you get to render this, consider the following:
I don't quite get the idea of whats on the doors sides, is it a wall of rock or is it some kind of fog? Work that a bit out, if its a rock wall, make sure to give it some nice hard edges and a corresponding texture, I find that the noise filter is good for creating that kind of texture if used correctly!
Also, here are a couple of images you could get ideas for your textures:

Not sure if you intend on going with a rusty door or a more, copper, kind of clean metal texture, but anyway, if you can create a couple of custom brushes out of these and add a layer of multiply to give the bones a real texture, I think it would help your illustration pop out a lot more!

Very interesting challenge! Making textures and mixing up brushes is definitely something that I've wanted to try in GIMP, MyPaint or Artrage, any advice on methods to take is appreciated

-Virev: I like your start, has a lot of atmosphere

Here's my rough- envisioning a water-temple like place with trickles of water leaking through windows and doors leading to mold, and a little established wetlands right outside of the door, which will be obliterated as our adventurers advance to the imprisoned boss...

                      Hey guys

I'm Saran and I'm new to the boards, please do guide me along

I agree with the guys who think its floating away from the anatomy.
However, I like the idea of the door and the texture study very much.

I will try to study anatomy with the door
