Default Digital comics - the pros

I was looking through my DeviantArt feed and saw that Balak did an interesting piece concerning Digital comics. I thought I'd share his nice little piece:

Actually, you can do all this with a simple gif... (although it would go at a set speed and not with clicks), and granted, it will be heavier than Flash, but the result will be the same.

I think what makes this so good is that the ideas are integrated within the idea itself.

jesus christ that was hilarious, beautiful and motivational. Just great storytelling. But I still don't know how you turn all of that hard work into money. I remember hilarious flash cartoons on the early half of the decade and they disappeared because nobody was getting paid. I hate to be a downer, but you can't draw if you die of malnutrition. There are new digital market places now, like itunes and xbox live. I'd like to see this medium become financially viable, because the possibilities are far greater than print.

My favorite web comic is the Killer I can't believe this wasn't bigger than sliced bread or chocolate rain for that matter.

That was great, I hope comics start adapting this style. I like how it can borrow from animation while keeps its comic roots.

              Default comics to come

i think there is a lot of potential in this way of thinking. But it's not just comics.

It feels odd to give the Ipad so much credit, but with a device like that you could make children's books, comics and even 'art of'' books so much more in depth with the ability to click images move them around on screen etc etc ETC!

              Something big is happening...

              Damn call me crazy
but this would make a great interactive experience in any aspect I could imagine those paperback comics in this fashion like a web movie/game comicbook
I got alot of visions and ideas from this concept

I mean what if you took this to a whole new lvl. with a gaming aspect like role playing where the reader could create their own ending by selecting different scenarios instead of it being a set stage

like say your character is confronted by a mob of enemies and your given a few option like pop ups that decide your path but wouldn't it be cool if you did not know where it would lead until revealed to make your next move

I'm not sure if this makes sense to anyone or has been done already and
grant it it would take alot of work/effort to do it

just a thought to add to this to keep wheels rolling if anyone reads this and feel free to spin off of this idea

That is a cool comic. I don't like having to navigate through the comic though. It was ok the first time, but I think people would tire having to click though like that. Maybe it's just me....

If it were set up as pages and you could flip though them with a motion of your hand it might work better. I like flipping though comics to the end to see all the art-work and then I go back and read everything.

This is so awsome. I'm seriously re-thinking my graphic novel in terms of this style of story telling. It's so much more dynamic then what you can achieve with a printed comic book. I'm not saying that all story telling styles will benefit from this format, but for what I'm trying to do (action\thriller\horror), it's right on.

I've been mulling this "mod" flash-type web comic over for a few weeks now. I think part of the visual problem it has is that the scenes are fleeting. You only get to see one moment at a time. It's not as visually rewarding as being able to focus on a comic panel in a comic book and then being able to quickly look backward and forward in the time sequence.

I once subscribed to a so-called web comic. The story would advance across a predetermined area and as it advanced, the past panels would remain visible. When you were done reading the story arch and entire huge area of the comic was visible as a sort of large poster. If you zoomed out you could see the whole story. However after a month I lost interest (paying school tuition and studying also became a factor).

Wow I totally think that's an awesome idea! It's bringing the rpg of video games, and tieing it in with the classic "choose your own reaction/outcome" adventure books from back in the day! It would bring the reader that much more into the comic itself. Love it!

Also thanks for sharing the link, this is fantastic. i've been wanting to create a graphic novel, but bringing in this interactive aspect to it just pushes it to the next level that I never thought about. Wow! <3

Balak and others are now working on the first "infinite comics" at Marvel: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?p...ticle&id=37459
One more step forward for the new medium.
