Hi all, I thought I would join in on my first CG Hub Challenge.

My idea was to have a Native American warrior happen upon an approaching Viking horde (I think they count as pirates?) My thought was to have the Brave be mythologically strong and convinced of his own invincibility, like the Conan of the Native American world. I like to think he has fought these type of men before so he is not afraid.

Here are two roughs. At the moment I am trying to decide on costumes. In the second rough I like the idea that the white bands across his left arm represent all the Vikings he has encountered and killed in the past. Also he has kept a few skulls as trophies.

Also the Longships have just been copy pasted from a ref I found on the net. I am just using it to help me figure out the composition, I'll paint in my own ships as I progress.

Hope I can make it in this challenge. Looks like it's going to be a good one. I'm thinking that I'm going to go with a space/sci-fi pirate theme, but we'll see.

Ok, here's a quick mood test.
I'm going with a classical battle scene, maybe it's a lil' predictable but is something I wanted to paint since I was kid so we'll see how it came out.

@thewalker: cool! Alchemy is really something I wanna try someday (downloading right now).

This is what I've got so far.
Since I liked the first layout I'm building up the illustration upon that sketch. I'm trying to concentrate on colors and mood because I want to stay believable and 'painterly' '(I'm really inspired by some of the howard pyle's piece linked in top of the topic).

I did a couple of new characters but I'll draw some more on the scene for sure... I want an horde of pirates!

This looks amazing. Really liking the atmosphere and all.

One critique I might do is that they don't look like they belong to the same crew... I don't know if it is the costumes or because they aren't interacting with each other but you might want to develop that. Its a great piece nonetheless!

I think you're right. At this point I'm still working without references so even costumes came out from my poor memory. I'll try to fix all my mistakes during the process.
Anyway, the idea is that all my pirates are jumping up from their ship to another. I'll try to reserve my only color variation for a reddish reflection on the characters in foreground, suggesting fire and smoke from the assaulted ship.

This is a rough sketch of my idea.
The pirates have found a new island and they started to steal the native�s treasures. So, things are just too easy for the pirates, maybe it change
