Default 3D Production Challenge 2012 - SAMRATEK WIP

This is my first organic model and boy is this a challenge! I am looking forward to learning much about sculpting. As time permits I will post more images as the creature (and its thrall) progresses. Thanks.

Haven't had much time to work on the project. Reshaped the horns, added the wing structure and extruded forms for the lower arms.

Got rid of the peg teeth I originally had, added a lip ring and ear chain, extended/extruded the upper arm forms and testing using extruded forms/paths for hair. Haven't tried the particle hair/system yet.

Outstanding work everyone! After several false starts I've begun to fashion a skull of sorts. More to come...

            Default 3D Production Challenge 2012 - SAMRATEK WIP #5

Took some time today to work a little bit more on the skull. Instead of working directly in multi-resolution/sculpt, I worked in vector points first to rough out the shape (above) and then added the multi-resolution modifier necessary to sculpt. Although this makes it easier for me to start, the sculpting is not uniform because the modifier isn't applied equally to all facets of the form. As a result the draw/subtract and pinch tools don't seem to have the desired effect as I would have expected. Still, I'm learning nonetheless...

Worked on the skull a bit further this morning. Each step is something entirely new for me... I first detached the jaw and worked on the hinge form. After that I loop cut the upper mandible to create extruding faces for teeth. I then loop cut the tooth forms and scaled them to something resembling a tooth.

Default 3D Production Challenge 2012 - SAMRATEK WIP

I took the time to watch a few more tutorials about sculpting and modeling a human head this weekend and decided to jump back and redo the monster/alien/demon head for this project. I was dissatisfied with the mouth and jaw on my first attempt; I think I'm off to a somewhat better start on this one. The head and jaw seem to be in better proportion compared to the earlier posting. Still a lot needs to be done...

Default 3D Production Challenge 2012 - SAMRATEK WIP

This morning I worked a little more on the head, put in some placeholders for the horns, borrow the lip ring/chain from my earlier model and for the first time (for me) utilized the particle system to generate guide hairs! Yippee! Is it just me or does my sculpt look like some kind of demonic bunny man? Ah well, the fun continues...

Learn and work with your Topology(It should be evenly spaced)!

I appreciate your effort but the beginning is always the hardest part

To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift

Thanks Zentrope. As I mentioned above, this is all new to me and I dove in with the full confidence of the ignorant. It is definitely pushing me out of my comfort zone and making me try portions of the software I hadn't had a reason to before. However this turns out, I'll still be in a better place than when I started. Should have more WIP pics soon...

Ok, so here's the start of my third rendition of the creature's head. I feel more confident with this one than the previous "evil bunny" sculpt I made above. Updates as they occur...Name: scowels_prodchallenge2012_16b.png

it´s a good restart, but you have problem with your normals... select all the faces and press ctrl+n to fix that ( i can see you´re using blender )
