@antoncermak - This is going to sound harsh but... tbh drop the earth and convert to air, the instant I looked at your silhouttes I was spotting wings left and right. Only thing that would need any redrawing is the axe.

@GillBates - Ya I'm loving the obsidian too, even more so now that I can see it. It oozes "I'm gunna have dragon brain soup for brunch," not even an important meal, more of a late morning afterthought of a snack.

@Everyone Else - Take note of GillBates' positive use of ignoring reality. He acknowleged that obsidian in reality is "Very sharp but super brittle" and went with f*** it its fantasy anyways. The thing ignored had no functional purpose only aesthetic, and bs explaining material composition is far easier than explaning how a hand is supposed to form a V above the knuckles (opposite of palm), how two hands fit on a handle that is far less than two hands long, or how a bow fires an arrow with a string that is either not taut, bending around parts of a bow, or disconnected from the ends ( Starexai)

Ok here it is, because I said I would. A very basic and slow processional of my work flow, mostly for the purpose of making it tutorialistic. Some notes beforehand...
Normally when working traditionally I wouldnt use a sharpie or stop for iterations this much. Yes this is paper, pencil, eraser, and sharpie, god traditional sucks. Yes that paper is folded, yes I traced iterations over thus the flip-flopping, I miss layers. And in a normal wip of mine the 3rd would be the first youd see.

      Alrighty here goes nothing...

Step 1: Left: Basic "VERY" basic general outline/form of what shape I want to work off of. Only purpose is to act as a fence of sorts, keep me from changing the apparent shape of the weapon so much that it becomes unrecognizeable.

Step 2: Center: Primary elemts begin. This weapon is intended to have a rock blade with living wood binding so in this phase Im making the general idea of the known rocky points.

Step 3: Right: Add in next element. In this case adding in the living wood binding. Also added/modified rock bits in regards to the new element, mostly noticble for the pommel and top of the blade.

Critiques Step 1: It sucks, no further needed.

Critiques Step 2: Blade is too clean to be rock, but in regards to further elements planned, holding off to know where and how edits can/should be made is adviseable.

Critiques Step 3: Wood part is too fluid, will have to make it more randomly jagged and knotted later. Where the rock need to appear broken down is now know basically. Hilt is obviously too short for a two-handed weapon and will need to be extended. Steps 4 and 5 will need to be making the dual tone silhoutte of the component materials more real (1 tone rock, 1 tone wood). Explanation of hilt issues for those who cant see it readily and guesstimate. At current length given that the blade is around 42in or 3ft 6in long the hilt would be around 8in long and a hand is generally between 3-5in across so the hilt would need to appear to have at least another 4-6in of length. Working digitially easiest fix would be to make a selection of the hilt and pommel and resize the selection out further from the crossguard, thus adding only length and not diameter which currently appears passable.

C&C welcome on part 3, the step explanations, and my critiquing of my own work. More commentary and questions helps everyone who reads, keep that in mind peeps.

On a side note, I'm quite proud of myself for not failing at my first time posting an image here, doubly for the fact that I did it with a cell phone.

Thanks for the comment Gill Bates
So this is the first render of the two handed claymore. the scarlet threads spun on the ring are a sign for power.for each enemy you killed u get a thread to spun into your weapon. more to come. axe will be the next refined.

@josh-o-matic - still liking it, keep it up
@seikfour04 - the wide fan style look is unique, im liking the kill count system, and the red ribbon tassel on the pommel. Only thing that bother me is the tip, makes it look like someone tried to make a condom balloon and realized the tip doesnt follow suit, also left side blade on the tip is larger than right. Your direction is solid though and im curious to see how you keep its motifs from one piece to the next.

              Default Elemental Weapons Bow

Here is my 1st pass on my earth elemental bow...

There are 2 hings I need to address before I call it done though.

First is there is nothing on the bow to really let me know it's an earthen elemental bow. I will probably change the underlying wood to crumbling stone. Or perhaps crack up the wood and make it feel petrified.

Second is how to attach those 4 plate bone looking things in the center of the bow. I really like the way they feel, and the idea came from having some rudimentary scope system...hmph, well see!

                Default More Earth Elementals

Some more WIPS to the ever expanding earth-elemental army, just tried to make the weapons I had more rocky. Still don't want to go with the craggy cliff look as its a bit of an easy option. Thanks to all you dudes who have passed advice my way.

Seikfour04: I dunno what program you are using but I would advise using a selection tool to get some really clean shapes and to have it either vertical or horizontal at first so you can get it more or less symmetrical. It will just improve the overall look of the thing and make the awesome design stand out more

                    hello : )
first time in a long time ive tried a contest, but i couldnt leave this one alone, im a sucker for weapon design.
anyway i played monster hunter 3 recently and really like the concept of cutting up a dragon and turning it into weapons, armour etc so im experimenting with something along those lines at the moment.
Going to really push the gore and rawness of the concept i think, try and give it a fresh spin, hopefully get the fire motif a bit more obvious than just 'made from dragon' as it is at the moment.
sword on left, and shield on right

Welcome to drawing jams Great design you have so far but remember it has to be based on one of the elements, there is more information in the first post

Hey kovah. im using ps and i know the selection tools, was just a quick coloring, because i didnt had too much time but im no fan of too refined pictures because i still am in the beginning phase os visual design and painting, so i want to focus on the big picture and get my basic skills down. but still selecting is a main problem i have woth ps do u have any advice how to make a clean selection and that with symmetry is a thing in ps i dunno ho wto do it.. i did it with a action but then i have to place it still -> not 100% symetrical... thanks alot for the comment

Personally I would only do half the weapon and then duplicate and flip it, then add some extra bits like scratches dents so it doesn't look so perfect.

For selecting it, I would do lineart with the pen tool (there are loads of tuts on youtube and whatnot how to use it) then use that for selection purposes to keep the outer lines clean.

I 2nd this. Draw half, use pen tool to clean lines, mirror, merge and erase clipping by hand. The break it down from there. Asymmetrical weapons are great but a symmetrical weapon having asymmetrical features on the core design of the weapon will come off as sloppy. Ie the drastically different blade withs on your sword's tip, as opposed to the good asymmetry of the red kill count strings in the center of your sword.

@GillBates - If I think of anything good for getting some earth into your bow ill give ya the heads up, looks sick so far tho.

@Dark Mechanic - nice updates, some more earthiness and an extra axe is what i can tell offhand, keep it up.

@Robobo - Who cares what radass means, sounds like a good thing.
