Anatomicae #22 - Punk Ragnarok
''...What if the battle of Ragnarok had rocket launchers?''
Due Date: January 31st, 2012, 12:00 EST

This round comes courtesy of the rich, interesting history of Nordic and Viking myths!
You are working on game/film/media project that features the mythology of the Vikings. But we're not talking ANY sort of viking..We're talking cyber-punk/steam-punk vikings.

You are tasked to create any type of asset you would like. This ranges from building design, character/costume design, weapons, vehicles, creatures, monsters, and environment painting. The caveat is that it must be cyber- and/or steam-punk themed, and still be readily identifiable as Nordic.

Google is your friend on this one. Here is a list of things/names to get you started, categorized:

Monsters/Creatures: Sleipnir (8-legged horse of Odin), Jormungandr (The Wyrm of Ragnarok), Fenrir, Giants (Jotunn), valkyries, dwarves
Places: Yggdrasil (The World Tree), Midgard, Asgard, Valhalla
People: Odin, Freya, Loki...Long list. You can check out a full list here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Germanic_deities

Entries will be judged on their creativity, as well as how effectively you implement your source material. Put extra thought into the history behind your chosen asset, because we will be looking for people who can make compelling assets that still fit with the essence of nordic myth.

im not really into norse myths but this one definitely piqued my interest :-) im gonna do a cyberpunk valkyrie...

did some quick thumbnails since im so stoked hahaha.

This challenge looked like a lot of fun, so I had to put something together for it.
My idea is for a punk, somewhat post-apocalyptic-looking viking. If I have time I'll add color and some more details, but so far I'm pretty happy with the design.

instead of making her 100% flesh, i though it would be cool to make her an amputee with cybernetic parts.

refined the wings on this pic. gave them that mechanical wing look, while trying to make it look functional as well.

more refinement, and introduced some colours to see what would suit. also, i gave the arm some curves and trims in order to give that norse look.

here's my latest update. im starting to do some finishing touches here. so far im pretty happy with how she looks, and i think she captured well what i was aiming for. as for the colours, im not sure whether to give her full colours or greyscale, since either works just as well. i do want to keep the red overcast since im thinking of putting her in a blood red sky.
