About environments... you have to keep in mind three rules: foreground, middleground, and background and how they relate to eachother; scale big vs. medium vs. small; and lastly value dark medium gray and light gray/white. In your compositions, they read really flat because either the values are too close, the background/middleground or foreground simply merge to each other, or you put big things next to medium things instead of small things.

I'm going to send you some notes I got when I asked Jason Schier for advice on environments, just to not clog up your forum. I hope they help, and I hope either Malo or Jose chime in too!

          Otherwise, gogogo! Createcreatecreate!

This is a pretty old recording i found on my pc. before I did the 53 daily Self portraits and it shows.. But I guess its nice to see me me struggling.
couldn't find a decent picture of it, just the print screen, but its more about the process than the result anyways

            Hey there buddy!

as promised - a quick environ line
I do agree with Stace! A good way to get some depth into your environ is to use those three "levels". For that - keep in mind that the closest elements are the darkest (as closer the element will be to the cam, as darker it gets). Another good way is to use some customized brushes and shape for the structure and textures. Do you work with something like that? maybe I could share some of my brushes and shapes with you. Just let me know.

And - just in case you're interested - I did some screen caps and tutorials for landscape/environs. They are on my blog. Maybe they will be a bit more helpfull than my poor english.
If you have any questions - just drop me a line and I'll get back to you asap. Or we could do a collab.

            Cheers

thanks malo, I used to have 75mb of brushes, but now I just use Algenpfleges brushsett, Found it on his deviantart. Mostly I stick with the normal roundbrush at about 75 softness. But I do use other brushes sometimes. Should do it more i guess

do any of you people know of any websites or free videos that explain about composition?

                WEEEPPAAA!!!
Hey man glad u taking up on environments!
I have a few videos that might actually help a lot....
I can put them in the dropbox if u want!

But as stace said.... 3 steps....
Also it helps to work zoom out so u concentrate first and only on scale, composition and value.

Feng has some great free video tutorials as well over at : AQUI! AQUI!

Anyways.... maybe we can shoot something up over skype
                keep it up!
