Arrow Purchasing a PC rig off a friend for 3D work and gaming

    Hey there guys,

I wanted to see if I could get some opinions here.
A friend of mine whom I study with is looking to upgrade to a new PC they want to build with much higher specs, and as I'm currently saving to build a new PC myself (currently running off an '08 laptop), he's offered to sell me his.

What he's offering essentially is a full PC tower with all the parts. Some parts he is keeping for himself, but has offered to buy the replacement parts new to add in there, and re-assemble it all for me, even giving me the choice of case.

Here is what is on offer:

CPU: 6700 2.77 ghz Quad Core
    4gb DDR3 Ram Corsair.
    X58 PcI-E 2 compatible Motherboard
GPU: nVidia GE Force GTX 260

Also his old Thermalright cooling fan, not sure what model, but it would allow him to overclock the CPU to 3.0 gHz for me.

Case+ psu + Hard drive are the only parts I'd then need to get for it, which he could get, then assemble it all.

(I'll still need to look into a monitor)

The price he suggested for all of that, assembled and overclocked as above was AU$500 (Australian)

As I work in Maya 2011, Mudbox, Photoshop CS4 and possibly zBrush eventually, does this seem like a good rig that's going to last me a while, or am I better off spending a couple $100 more and building a better PC?

    Thanks heaps guys.
