A homage to an expensive MTG card that I had once upon a time long ago which I unfortunately sold for dirt cheap amongst other old cards to buy a used surfboard when I was like 15.

I rendered it out as best I could without any reference. I also tried to push the shapes a bit in the drawing stage. I wanted him to be not just fearsome but intelligent also. I paint with gouache a lot traditionally, and I now have a Photoshop brush that tends to mimic the look very well.
