Default how do you get your work critiqued?

I just want to know how I can improve what I have posted on this website. Everything I draw, I notice, seems off and I can never tell what it is.

This maybe due to being self taught, and not really having anybody to tell me what I'm doing wrong.

I feel like I've hit a plato and have been stuck there for some time and I draw and look up different techniques everyday.

I plan to go back to school but until then I would appreciate a friendly, productive, critique.

...actually...I really don't care how friendly it is as long as it's productive.

      Default Critique

      Hey Kajax,

One thing that helps me to judge my work is to not look at it for one day or more and then try to look at it again. When I paint I tend to do this after every important step, if possible. Distance to your own work is very important.

Friends and family can also be excellent judges, even without artisic education. Just tell them to be critical.

Another great source of feedback are sites like this one. Post your pieces and ask for feedback. You have a lot of talented peoble roaming around here ;-)

i could add that if you want to get critique here. You need to do your homework too. Critique others, be active in this forum, post frequently. Because i have noticed that people doesn't like to critique or comment on "strangers"/"unknown buddies". You must build community around you and make some friends if you really want to level up.

When I need critiques I will always ask my friends first. They can usually give me some good ideas.
Or,I will post on some useful CG forum for professional help.

Generally it looks like your proportion and understanding of light and shadow are pretty far along and you have pretty good taste in color. Blending seems to be an issue in a couple of places from what I can tell (don't know if that's the issue that's bugging you.) It seems like you might tend to taper feet a bit too much and maybe get a bit lazy with them with some things. Also observation is critical. I noticed that you will make recessed grooves (in a shirt and on a building) where you'll put highlight lines on both sides of the groove and that rarely happens in reality you have to make a decision about where the strongest light is coming from and then the light and shadows have to be consistently reflected in all of the objects of any given scene.

The last thing I would say is that is you might have to revisit your philosophy on blending and incorporate a number of blending techniques into your arsenal. Whether that means using a textured brush with the smudge tool or sample blending with the eyedropper tool and a brush (cardinal sin to "Blur" or "Smudge" in some people's book, but those techniques are downright useful for PS users.)

Ive been wanting critiques too. I notice off on the side, there is a section that says "So and so wants a critique. How do I make it so when I add an image, it gets put into the critique section?

I'm not sure if anybody really pays any attention to that thing.

The best way to get your work critiqued is to start a sketchbook as, arttorney mentioned. It can take a while to get critiques tho, don't get frustrated, it just takes some time, as long as you don't abbandon it on the first couple of posts
lmayfield does a great question tho, I do take notice on that section and I've always wondered how one can submit their artwork to be displayed there.

                  Default wants critique

I don't know if kjax89 was refering to side column that appears on the right, when we are seeing an image that says "Wants Critique".

How do we appear on that?

I do post on forums, mainly on the 3D corner, wip section and the feedback tends to be zero. That's a bummer.

Helping others to improve thats nice.
