I think that all the other forums out there uses dark colors, so the light one gives CGHub a bit of highlight among them. Also, I have to confess that this was one of the first things that caught my attention in CGHub. I think the contrast is well balanced here and adds to the design. If it's necesssary to add darker colors, maybe using something lighter than the general forums dark colors would work too.

Another option is having a "choice" for skins on the forum- for example, A lighter one and a darker one- I want the lighter version, I use it, you want the darker, you use it, and everybody is happy. I don't know if it's possible, but it could be a good idea, since I am sure it'll be really difficult to please all users with only one skin option, and the opportunity of choosing between 2 skins could be a good way to please a wider range of hubbers.
