Welcome to the Creature Forge, the CGHUB 2D challenge of illustrating creatures of all shapes and sizes!

Creature #67 :: Triclops

Challenge Overview:
The triclops' primary sense is the 3 eyes it has. It is a nocturnal little creature that gets frightened easily, so it spends much of its time looking around for predators before making any type of move. It is a quadruped with 2 smaller limbs used to handle food. (6 limbs total) All other physical traits are up to you.

Final Delivery:
One image of your creature. Background/environment is optional. Have Fun! :)

I'm excited that the semester is over so I can finally work on some creatures!

I've started work on a triclops. I started in sculptris to get the proportions and shading right. But since I don't trace it is just a loose sketch at the moment. Also the third eye is on the back of the head. I will have to include another triclops to illustrate that in the final.

I like this, he definitely has that nocturnal feel.

Ok, I'm just making sure. So in total this creature has 6 limbs? 2 for food and 4 for walking. Or 4 with 2 of them being smaller?

Just clearing this up before I carry on with any more sketches.

Hey, here's an update on my progress. I started by gathering some reference images that made me think of nocturnal animals, as well as the kind of environments I wanted to creature to live in, which would help me think of what it should look like. I wanted an almost pest-like creature, that you could imagine competing with mice and small rodents. I thought about making it look weak and vulnerable, like a little mouse, funny enough, first thing that came to mind was Kristen Stewart's character in Twilight :P

I started out with some silhouettes, making each one very different from eachother; what helped me was to try and put each one into a real group of animals, mammals, insects, and birds were my starting points. Hopefully with some tweaking, one of these will turn out good in the final image, but that's still a ways off.

I started working into each one, so far I have a general idea of what the first one could look like, but I'm not that keen on it.

I spent about an hour on this guy, a lot longer than I wanted considering these are meant to be just exploratory sketches,

By the way, I just bought a new laptop, literally 3 days ago, and the screen seems to need some calibration, so the image will probably appear darker/more contrasting than it actually is, hopefully I'll get the screen calibrated soon.

Will update soon with more stuff, critique welcome :)

6 total, 4 for walking + 2 for food

I immediately thought of smoe kind of squirrel or shrew like creature, (well actually the first thing I thought of was the Triclops from Metroid Prime, but after reading the brief) after some quick sketching I've settled with one and started a rough composition, I'm really looking forward to painting this little guy! At first glance it's 'food limbs,' lets call em, are a little to rough to make out but they're there!

Started some weird turtle / hermit crab thing. i know its nocturnal so ill change the environment later. still not sure about the design ill see where it goes... :)>-

I've worked into the 3 silhouettes, I didn't spend as much time on the other two as on the first one, since I'll be refining and changing the design anyway, but for now I think I'll go with either top or bottom left, or come up with something that has elements from both.

I especially like the idea of having the eye on the tail, so that the eye can continiously scan the area for potential threats. The eye on top of the head, to scout for birds of prey is also a cool idea, but I'll most likely go with the tail as it gives more range of vision.
The bottom left also looks like its better built to run from predators, but I'm actually liking the top left, because it looks like it could fit in the most in the environment I want it to be in. The insect one was a bit of a failed experiment, didn't enjoy making it at all and rushed it a lot.
