Thanks to everyone who took time to participate in the 2012 Production Challenge! There were many amazing entries and it was extremely difficult to choose the winners. Adrian and the other judges on the CGHUB.com staff spent a long time deciding which entries should be in the top 3.

There were many amazing entries that didn't make it, but that in no way diminishes the excellence of the work. Everyone who finished should be extremely proud for completing such a difficult challenge. At CGHUB.com we strive to please everyone but unfortunately that is rarely possible, and we are far from perfect in everything that we do. These challenges are a genuine attempt to help artists grow and learn from one another, and we view that as the true goal here. We will continue our effort to improve the challenges in the future!

Nice to see cghub replying here, I can't speak for other artists on the site, but I do feel we should strive to make the best critiques we can so we can grow as much as we can and to help each other reach new levels on our work, I'm glad to read you are committed to improving this contest.

    Congrats again to everyone!
I hear you Renderluz. and appreciate your contempt. I think this is a special situation. This concept that Adrian made was unbelievable, and alot of these entries were unbelievable as well. If the point of this challenge was to build a better community then i stand by what you say about the critiques. At least i hope the judging was delayed because there was so much awesome, but i probably just have high hopes that i was one of the reasons for that delay :P

just to clarify it seems you didn't realized you said they where wrong, else how is the phrase to be interpreted:

"well I'm not the judge but if I was I don't see why yours isn't at or near the top"

Also yes we both have very different minds indeed still I respect your point of view, while honestly I don't see how you can make judging solely from a subjective point of view and still have any kid of measuring tool for improvement, this is not critique to you at all, I just don't get it, perhaps I never will and that's fine.

    Here's how I work:

    Informal: Subjective point view

Formal: Objective, analyze as much as possible, try not to involve my personal tastes

Of course there's not way to be completely objective, but the idea in my mind to try to mix both like a ying and a yang so you get the fairest ruling you can make.

So when somebody gives me an informal critique I can tell if hes just saying he does not like my work cause well he just doesn't like it then that is fine and if he likes it then I simply say thanks and feel good about it but it makes no impact in my work ill just keep doing what I like.

The he can give me an formal critique in witch i can realize the arm is disjointed or the gesture is too stiff all sort of things i can improve upon, so I take those and make my work better.

Also when I'm dealing with a client then all he tells me to do I do, I might suggest to change this or that, but ultimately he's got the final word, but this is not quite the same, this is not a client this a contest where we are to be judged in both strengths and weakness and in both the technical and the expressive side, the client often will not knows clearly what he wants so you have to do lots of sketches and when hes satisfied then you move forward with the sketch he liked, you have to sort of read his mind to figure out what he needs, this in self i think is an art form but the person or person who judged us where not clients, they where like us artists, that are trained to analyze art so i expect more, If I'm wrong count me surprised, they also gave us a set of guidelines to follow, and while the client has the final word if a client strings me along and makes me do 20 versions of cats only to tell me he want a dog in the end, and that also he will not pay for the 20 cats then I will just politely tell that client thanks for you business but I don't think we can work together.

The same way if the ideas was to get as close as possible to illustration translating it to 3D while adding a bit of your flare to the mix and then client was to tell me at the end of the production cycle yes you where very close but I prefer this other version that is not as close, not as faithful and on top of that I will not pay you for the work you did previously even tho you did a good job according to the initial briefing then I'm sorry but cant see how that is correct.

But like I said I understand now how your mind works, and respectfully disagree.
and is still deeply thank you for making your PM public and for discussing this matters.

I will answer this as best I can and will leave it there for anyone who wants old man Doppies Opinion
I run on a different philosophy than you Renderluz about this kind of stuff. I ve been doing this awhile and I've found a method of getting through to my guys thats different than what you want.
I cant critique you because I don't critique based on objectivity. all I do is make the client happy that's my job through and through. he says 4 arms. the creature gets 4 arms he says 6 eyes each different sizes. that's what he gets. here we kind of were allowed to do what we want and that's refreshing for me and I took advantage of the opportunity In my spare time of course.
sometimes we go to our clients many times and the client sends us back saying its not right do it right. we just keep working at it till the client is satisfied. our opinions don't matter you see. this is why i cant critique you. the piece is yours and if you intended it to look that way then its good. it might not be what the client is looking for but there it is.
The only piece of advise I can give is 4 months is too long a time for this piece, not for a competition mind you but if it was a contract or whatever. but I suspect he new people would be after working it.
look at how long it took you and try to do something similar in say a month or whatever time you want. speed is increasingly become very important
    cheers! and happy sculpting

And no I don't want a prize I just want to understand, and grow I always thought that what this art internet art sites were for, dam all the contest and dam all the rules, I want to grow for that I extend the same invitation I extended to
Doppelganger tell me what I can improve upon and by my life that I will try to apply all that into the next piece I make.

Read the brief and the rules of the contest and compare my image to the ref and tell me you did a mistake here, this you could improve, here, and here, and here, I will welcome this as what it is, a chance to GROW.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for coming forward I'm not religious but I do believe in god,
and to that god I I sent my most heat felt prayers, thanks for being brave, I means the world to me.
I also think you like me did the best you could do, thanks for coming forward and being brave.

I think you should get recognition for that, it think there should be a brotherhood badge in the site and
I think you should have it, for supporting a fellow artist and staying true.

I don't know what else to say other than I wish the best to you and I hope we both succeed and make better
art in the future always improving and striving to do better.

I also respect you a lot, and find lost of positive things on your work, and think we both have potential to improve tenfold and to do GREAT work in the future, thanks for allowing me to find peace, and if you want to write a constructive critique in both the informal and formal side I would accept it and value it like one of my best critiques ever.

Thanks that me mean more that all the contest
and all the prices in the world that to me is true fellowship between peers, for that I thank you.
